Thoughts on Tor please (for a boy)? Not short for anything, just as is.

I thought of Glastonbury Tor as pp has already mentioned! It's lovely there. But I digress!

I didn't know about the dark web thingy tbh, but I'm definitely old and out of touch.

I'm not sure how I feel about the name; trying to imagine if someone introduced themselves as Tor... My first thought is that imagine a few people would wonder if they'd misheard Thor, then I'd think of the word Tore. Imagine he would end up spelling it out a lot, but that's probably ok as it's only three letters Grin.

The more I say it to myself, the more I don't like the sound of it very much. Weirdly I like it better written down iyswim.

So, I'd probably vote no, but then it's not my baby! Definitely not appalling.

Both Tor and Mads sound like shortened girls names to me - for Victoria and Madeleine.

I know the Pennines well and like Tor both as a rocky outcrop and a cool boy’s name Smile

I know one Tor. He's norwegian. In English, go for Thor instead

Thanks for the suggestions. Torr is interesting and I do like Mads a lot but too close to DHs name!

My BIL is Norwegian and Tor is quite common in Norway but is spelt Thor, it's actually how the Norwegians say Thor if that makes sense! My sister and hubby considered for their last (ended up being a girl) but they also like Mads, Stellan and a few other Norwegian names if you like the style!

Torr means a bare rocky hilltop in Celtic, I think it is, so quite a nice name. Think I'd put two rrs as one looks unfinished to me, me being used to Torr.

I quite like it. It sounds strong and masculine. And is easy to spell and pronounce. What's not to like?

I know a boy conceived on Dartmoor called Tor. He has brothers called Devon and Dart (the Dart is the river that runs through Dartmoor).

Weirdly I love all these names even though my own kids have common traditional royal names.

I know a Tor, early forties. His parents may be Scandinavian. Lovely name.

I'm less keen on Thor (unless you pronounce it like Tor).

Norse God of thunder âš¡ just don't make him cross! Would you prefer Thor? Only to save you correcting people's spelling constantly. You might also like Casimir means destroyer of peace.

It not only has a Scandinavian feel, it is Scandinavian, but I don't think it's so common these days. As long as you don't name the baby Tord not an unusual Scandinavian name but may be quite unfortunate if spelled wrong.

I know one - his name has always seemed to 'work' to me (known him from childhood, adult now). Don't know him well enough to know if he's ever had issues, but no reason to think he has. I like it.
