Grace Joy or Gracie Joy?

Joy is 100% staying.

Grace is the only name we agree on.

Grace Joy sounds odd, right?

DH says Gracie Joy is better? Sad

@Queenofthedrivensnow - not necessarily. My dd (11) was in a primary school of 350. There was one other grace in year 1 when she was in year 6. No other grace's in her tutor, maths or English at secondary school.

Agree grace joy is lovely.

Both beautiful names. I'd call her Grace - the diminutive takes away a bit from the name, and you can always use it as a nn if it seems right when she arrives.

Congratulations on your baby and I am so sorry about your mum.

You will so rarely say the first and middle name that I really wouldn't worry. I much prefer Grace to Gracie.
I'm sorry for your loss. Especially at this time. It must be so hard. Including her name in DD's is a lovely tribute.

Grace Joy sounds fine. I wouldn't worry too much about how it flows with middlename as they are infrequently used.

I'm in exactly the same situation, my mum died 3 weeks ago and we're using her name as a middlename even though it doesn't work perfectly with the first name.

If you aren't, then the sound of the names together doesn't matter so much as you liking both of them, as you will rarely say them together

Gracie is lovely on a newborn which is what your Dh is imagining, unfortunately they don't stay that way forever. 36 year old Gracie is not going to thank you.

Grace Joy Surname will be a great tribute to your mum

Wondered if you might be able to have Grace 'Name' Joy 'Surname', not sure what you would use just an idea.

I personally think Grace is a lovely name and altogether Grace Joy is lovely. The more you use them the more they will feel like they belong together.

I'd put Grace on the BC and use Gracie as a diminutive.

Joy is such a lovely middle name.

I think like others have said, Grace Joy is lovely. And you can still call her Gracie but Grace is better as an adult name imo.
I have a family member called Gracie who is about 10 now and goes by Grace as she says "I'm not a baby!"

Agree with Caulkhead, apart from the christening, or when she gets married, people never say the names together! What you prefer as a first name is much more important.
Or you could have 2 middle names:
Eg. Grace Amelia Joy Smith.
I think Grace Joy is lovely by the way.

I'm very sorry for your loss OP. It's lovely to honour your mum in this way.

I think Grace Joy is perfect. First and middle names don't have to flow as they are rarely spoken out loud.

Much better to have Grace on her birth certificate and you will naturally call her Gracie if you want to.

Gracie sounds too cutesy. I can't imagine a 40 yr old gracie.
