What does this name make you think of?

I really love the name Ada, it seems to be the only name where I can actually picture myself with a daughter of that name.

However I have made the mistake of telling family/friends this and have now had two separate people tell me I can't call her that because it makes them think of Adolf Hitler?!! And WW2.. Why?! It's really annoyed me and I hate that people can be so opinionated when it comes to what you're going to call 'YOUR' child. Can I over look this.. or is the name now ruined?

I would also think of Ada Lovelace. And definitely not Hitler!?

Not Adolf at all!

For me it is Les Dawson in a dress, hoicking up his bosoms Blush. That may be a generational thing however - peers of any little Ada born nowadays would never make the same connection!

I can only see Ada reminding someone of Adolf if they were American, as Americans pronounce Adolf with the long "ay" sound that is the same as the first syllable of Ada. But this won't be a problem in other countries, as the two are pronounced differently.

Ada makes me think of Ada Lovelace.

And this is why you should never tell people in real life your shortlisted name(s)!

They are being idiots. Ada is a brilliant name. It makes me think of Ada Lovelace who is a good namesake. But to be honest once you know someone with a name you learn to associate it with them and nothing else.

My family ripped my DS1 name to piece when I first told them what he was going to be called. Now, they love it and can't imagine him being called anything else.

You name her whatever you want to name her.

I know a little Ada. She is very cute.
No way would the name make me think of Hitler!
