What does this name make you think of?

I really love the name Ada, it seems to be the only name where I can actually picture myself with a daughter of that name.

However I have made the mistake of telling family/friends this and have now had two separate people tell me I can't call her that because it makes them think of Adolf Hitler?!! And WW2.. Why?! It's really annoyed me and I hate that people can be so opinionated when it comes to what you're going to call 'YOUR' child. Can I over look this.. or is the name now ruined?

Hitlers girlfriend was Eva Braun. Not Ada.

Ada is a very nice name.

Your daughter will have her own personality which will define her name. Even if you called her Eva after Hitler's girlfriend I'm sure she would make her own connotations.

But don't say she's called Eva after Hitler's girlfriend.

Reminds me of Les Dawson and Roy Barraclough's Cissy and Ada. I know a little Ayda but I can't get past The 2 old women hoisting their bossoms over the yard wall.

We have a lovely Scandinavian niece called Ada. I think it's a beautiful name.

My DGM's washing machine was an Ada, they were made in the 1960's and were very well-made machines, apparently. She loved it.

Apart from that, I've never known an Ada IRL, but it makes me think of old ladies with lace-edged fine lawn handkerchiefs... no idea why!

If you like it, go for it. Whatever name you choose, there will always be someone who picks fault with it. As long as you love it and it isn't a ridiculous name (which Ada certainly isn't!) don't worry about what other people think!

Ada Lovelace. We love this name and very nearly gave it to DD, but she just didn't look like an Ada.

I presume it's because Hitler's partner/wife was called Eva Braun (pronounced A-va). That's a bit of a stretch to Ada though!

Ah thanks everyone, needed to hear this! I think it's because it's a German name? I don't know.. it is weird. Just annoying that naming a child seems to be the only time when people you know feel it necessary to have an opinion and rudely express it.. Won't be making the same mistake again!

Wasn't nicole kidman's character in Cold Mountain an Ada? I loved that film. It's a lovely name.

That's so weird. Agree with pp that it only makes any sense at all if they're Americans but even then it makes v little sense! I think Ada is a lovely name, and I'm sure they will once they associate it with your daughter - I wouldn't give their nonsense a second thought!

I think it's a beautiful name OP, and nothing to do with Adolf at all. Honestly can't understand the connection, and I'm a historian!

It's very nice. WW2 ?? Hmm possibly because it's old but no idea why hitler would be thought of.
I don't think of Hitler when I hear Eva.

Personally not a fan of Ada BUT my opinion is nothing to do with Hitler or any WW2 refs! Never heard of those links. Just prefer more classic than fashionable names. If you like it, use it.

Call your baby whatever you like and ignore everyone else's opinions!
