What does this name make you think of?

I really love the name Ada, it seems to be the only name where I can actually picture myself with a daughter of that name.

However I have made the mistake of telling family/friends this and have now had two separate people tell me I can't call her that because it makes them think of Adolf Hitler?!! And WW2.. Why?! It's really annoyed me and I hate that people can be so opinionated when it comes to what you're going to call 'YOUR' child. Can I over look this.. or is the name now ruined?

I know an amazing Ada aged 4 she's the only one I know. I think Bleak House and Lovelace. I really like it!

FFS! What's wrong with people? It's lovely! I don't usually like names on here, I find them a bit pedestrian, but Ada is really nice.

Great name. It makes me think of Ada Lovelace, then the three small Adas that I know personally, then the Les Dawson character (but that's my age I think).

Lol Fenella! That made me chuckle. There doesn't seem to be any middle ground. It either reminds people of an old biddy they once knew or a cute little girl.. I suppose that's what happens when a name comes back around. As long as people won't be nazi saluting her that's ok with me! Confused

At first I thought "fucking hell, that's the WORST name!!" but I don't have my glasses on, and a second reading revealed you didn't in fact say Asda.... Grin

Ada is an awesome name - Ada Lovelace was an incredible woman.

Growing up, I knew an Ada. She was very elderly and was the real matriarch of the working mans club my alcoholic father dragged me to numerous times a week. She sat in her corner with everyone waiting on her hand and foot. She was lovelyand used to give the passing kids the occassional sweet and a pound.
Ada doesnt make me think of Hitler AT ALL.

They're being ridiculous. Ada is lovely. My friend has one, she's gorgeous and suits it perfectly, and the name gets lots of compliments.

Reminds me of Ada Lovelace (great connection!) and Ada from Peaky Blinders, who's a nice character.

If anything, Eva would, but I've never seen anyone connect the two.

They may be thinking of the author Ada Petrova, who wrote the death of Hitler? Not a connection that would put me off using it - it is a lovely name.

Are they maybe a little confused and don't know the name of Hitler's girlfriend? If so, I'd definitely not listen to them.

My Gran (and Great-Aunt Ida) had a friend called Ada (not Asda, which my phone auto-corrected it to). I didn't like Ada (she was very two-faced and didn't have a nice word to say about you if you weren't there).

Other than her, I then think of Ada Lovelace (who I didn't know until Saturday was Lord Byron's daughter).

In no way does it resemble Hitler. However, I do think it's quite a harsh, masculine name. Though may not help that the two people I've known with this name have been very butch.

I agree, it's the association with Eva Braun. But considering there are lots of little girls happily called Eve/Eva, I think it's a ridiculous objection and one you're not likely to encounter otheriwse. Ada itself is/sounds nothing like Adolf. Do you have family/friends called Fawlty, by any chance? For me, Ada is a pretty, retro (or vintage) name, quite a 20s feel. Go for it :)

It makes me think of my incredibly strong grandma Ada, who died almost 10 years ago aged 93. And of Ada Lovelace - 'nuff said. I don't have children, but if if I did, the daughter would be Ada. Stunning name, please use it 😊

I think of a story called "Ada's Flowers" which was in my book of fairy tales - I think it is by Hans Christian Andersen
