Roux for a girl?

This has come up between friends as a good first name for a girl. What are your thoughts? I personally thought it was a sauce made from flour and milk.

One of the Golden Girls was Rue mcsomething so it's been around for a while

Rue doesn't make it much better. It means "street" in French.

Actually just googled and......
RuPaul was born in San Diego, California, on November 17, 1960. He was named by his mother, a Louisiana native. The "Ru" came from roux, which is the term for the base of gumbo and other creole stews and soups

I'd assume the parent wanted to name their DD after Rue from Hunger Games but thought that they were using a "posher" spelling

it may be a nickname but not really a name, it just doesn't work. Even in chocolat it's probably a nickname. Roux just doesn't work. Rue is French for street. Just no.

I quite like Rue from Hunger Games but can't get past the literal meaning of the word (regret) - not terribly auspicious.

Roux makes me think of the sauce and of Chocolat, in which I always assumed it was a nickname based on appearance rather than his real name as it means "red-haired" in French. It's also the male variant of the adjective, so seems weird to use for a girl (feminine would be "rousse"). A bit odd all round.

However, I do know a little girl called Boux, which is definitely worse!

It also sounds stupid if the kid isn't a red head....but even so it sounds like a sexy Jessica rabbit red head so it sounds creepy to me as a kids name

Roux means red/ginger in French. Male.
The female version is rousse.

How about waiting for the baby to be born first, so the name could be more appropriate if necessary? You know, Blonde or Brunette? Or even Baldy Wink

Roux is my sons name. It's in the book chocolat (Johnny depps character) It's unusual but it suits him.

I know Ru, as in short for Rupert.

But Roux is plain flour and butter dreadful.

Cute is no good when you're a grown up!
