Rosalind, Genevieve or Astrid

Rosalind. Genevieve is OK but I think the French pronunciation is nicer than the English way. I don't like Astrid at all - unless you have some Scandinavian connections.

Yes Cake definitely possible to use a non-standard NN - I don't use the traditional NN for my name, although ppl do try sometimes!

Someone suggested Sassi as a NN for Astrid, which I like - I want my daughter to be sassy!

Again I have to say Rosalind, I do like Astrid too it has an equally lovely meaning to Rosalind.

I am very biased because I have a Rosalind but I think it is the most beautiful name. She loves it and we shorten it to Rozzy which seems to work ok for us.

Rosalind [gavel]. Use Rosa or Rose if you don't want Ros, but you could just go with the full name.

Genevieve I know is NN Jenny, so many don't realise her full name.

All three are great choices. I would probably go for Rosalind and use nn Lindy. I don't think Roz is inevitable, I've used a 'less obvious' nn for my DD and doubt she will somehow end up with the 'traditional' nn for her name.

But Genevieve and Astrid are also wonderful. Would you use a nn for Astrid? Asti would be OK, but Assy not so much. (btw also love Elspeth!)

Astrid is a great name- DD was very nearly an Astrid and I still love it.

All lovely, but Rosalind will get shortened to Roz which is less nice. Genevieve and Astrid are great. Genevieve has more sympathetic nn options? Or just see what she looks like when you meet her!

All the Rosalinds are wonderful: Rosalind Franklin, Rosalind Russell, Rosalind from As You Like It. Can't go wrong.

If you wanted a shortened form, you could try Rosa or Rosie, though I prefer Ros.

Love Astrid. Great character in the HTTYD cartoons/movies, too. :)

Genevieve may well have been my choice had we had a second DD. It's a lovely name.

You lot are no help! Although reassuring that there's a fairly even enthusiasm for all three. Hmm, I don't know what to do. Rosalind would win if I could guarantee would stay the full name I think. I prefer the English pronunciation of Genevieve - and easier given we live here. DH prefers Astrid - I'm just worried it's too out there for England, even though in 2015 there were 81 of them born!

Rosalind will get "Roz" for short. Frumpy.

Astrid is harsh sounding.
