Etta is much more old-ladyish imo. If you want to use it as a shortened form of Juliet or Harriet that would work.

Iris is a lovely name.

Iris. Just seems more like a complete name to me. It's unusual without being out there.

I know a 10 yr old Iris and a 4 yr old Etta. Think I prefer Etta but it does sound odd as a full name on its own.

When I hear Iris, I can't help if thinking of that Iris Scott from Crossroads. That's one for the kids & totally irrelevant Wink

I had a good friend from Germany named Iris, she pronounced it Irr-uss.

Etta. I hear of quite a few baby Irises and while it's a nice enough name, I don't really get the hype. It's very old-lady (which I know is cool atm) and a bit staid. Etta on the other hand is bright and funky, and I've only ever met 1.

I know a lot of little gils called Iris, it has become pretty popular over the last few years. I only know one Etta, it is a fantastic, strong and cool name.

I think both names are beautiful, but I've heard of 3 babies being named Iris in the last 12 months so I'd go for Etta instead.

Iris is classy. It also travels well and is used in lots of European languages.

Etta I like short for something - Henrietta is a great name.
