What's wrong with it?!

When I said I was considering, I was asked 'do you want her to be bullied'...

I personally think it's lovely.

Awaiting plain white t's/Tom jones/Samson and Delilah/st Delilah who is apparently the saint for postitutes jokes.

My mum did a samilar thing.
She gave my 3 brothers names of good characters in the bible. though she wasn't overly religious.
Me, her only daughter, she gave a name of a woman viewed negatively

My brothers were so pleased to talk about their names.
I was not.
I often complained to my mum why she didn't give me a nice special name like my brothers.
Me and my mum never got on so well, but she's close with my brothers. Maybe that's why it annoyed me so much.

It's a pity that so many lovely names get bad press because of the original story in the Bible, if you love it use it anyway regardless of what other people say, you can always shorten it to lilah.

It's ok though my sons are Eden and Raphael (paradise and an archangel which belies my love of whores)

I never used to like it but there is a really sweet YouTuber called Rhiannon and she has a one year old Delilah and she's a wee dote, so yeah -

I do prefer Della though

One of my nieces is called Delilah, I love it she goes by lil or lilah though usually.

I'm not the least religious either, but culturally the stories still have resonance. Delilah, Jezebel, Judas, Herod, etc, don't have a good press throughout the aeons, whether you're religious or not.

Daisypond, I'm not religious at all so I'm not particularly bothered about fairy stories being a reason to put me off.

I had a cat named Delilah.

Love the name.

However when you're thinking Tom Jones then it's a song about a bloke who thought nothing of killing his wife for cheating on him. Not a nice connotation really. We used to use it as an example of how violence against women has been normalised by pop culture when we delivered the Freedom Programme for victims of DV.

I think it's absolutely beautiful. I would have loved to use if for my DD but I thought my DH would constantly be singing the Tom Jones song at the poor child. I love the Plain White T's song btw

I wouldn't like it purely because I wouldn't want people singing the Tom Jones song at her. It's not a nice song, he kills her in it.

There's a Delilah is my dc's class. I think it's a beautiful name but I do quite often find myself humming 'my, my, my Delilah' several hours after seeing her and wondering why why why.

You just know that idiots like me would feel the need to sing "Why, Why, Why" every time she came in the room. I wouldn't want to inflict that on anyone.

I really dislike it - purely down to the story. Seductress/temptress/lover of Samson, who betrayed him for money. I don't see why you'd want to name a child after her.

If kids are nasty they will always find some non reason to bully someone. I do think that was a weird response. It's hardly a bizarre non name?!

She may not be bullied, as such, but she'll certainly have numerous encounters with idiots singing "why why why" at her. Not sure I'd do it to my child.

Haha well I think it's lovely and your Delilah sounds gorgeous and inquisitive!

I know everyone will have different opinions, but I just thought 'do you want her to be bullied' was a bit extreme!
