Nell is nice but some reason adding the 'ie' turns it from a pretty name into a lump of a name.

I like Nell or if not I prefer Polly. Not so keen on Nellie (I think because of the elephant).

Hard to tell generationally - we had a very cool Polly in the family historically and two Nellies who hated their names (maybe due to Nellie the Elephant), Go Eleanor for Nellie and Margaret for Polly and your girls have their options open
