I like it, it's my DD's middle name and I never thought of the parrot thing. In my case it's after PJ Harvey, so there's a good example of an adult polly.

punkpuffin · 05/09/2017 21:15

I think it's lovely

MiriAmmerman · 05/09/2017 21:09

I love it. Don't think DP likes it though so unlikely to ever use it. I know one with a sister called Winnie (not short for anything, just Winnie) which I also like.

Yogagirl123 · 05/09/2017 20:58

I love the name Polly, one of my favourite girls names.

Poseyrose11 · 05/09/2017 20:56

I love this name. I know a 30 year old Polly who is lovely, and really suits her name. never even thought about parrot or kettle jokes!

ThreeSangriasFloor · 05/09/2017 20:47

I like it. Its a bit quirkier than Molly, Millie etc.

Sadie?

fionadal · 05/09/2017 20:42

Love it. Think it's actually(rather strangely) a nickname for Mary, so you could always call her that on the birth certificate.

OtterSpace · 05/09/2017 15:55

My 3.5 year old DD is Polly. It is very rare we come across another one considering how popular similar names are. There are a few Polly's who appear on TV (real and fictional!) and they mostly seem to be Doctors Smile.
She never gets parrot/dolly jokes although yet to start school so we will see...

Orangebird69 · 04/09/2017 23:51

I adore the name. Was in my top two is ds had been a dd.

WyfOfBathe · 04/09/2017 23:50

Pauline?! hmm Surely the world's not ready for a revival of that yet?
Maybe the UK isn't Wink it's in the top 100 in France and I think it's quite cute.

pennysays · 04/09/2017 23:48

The Polly I know says she loves being called it. I think it's a great name.

Buntysoven · 04/09/2017 23:41

Pauline?! Hmm Surely the world's not ready for a revival of that yet? I really like Polly. I imagine a quirky bright individual of any age. Lovely....but then my daughter is Nancy which has a similar feel.

WyfOfBathe · 04/09/2017 23:34

It's too parrot related for me - and I know 2 dogs but no people called Polly, so that would put me off.

What about Pauline or Paula, nickname Polly?

Molly
Holly
Olive/Olivia (Olly)
Rosie
Lucy
Bessie
Frankie
Cecily

ABitOTT · 04/09/2017 23:34

My cousin called her youngest child Polly. Hated the name to start with, as did my nan who thought my cousin was nuts. Now I think the name is great.

Names with a similar feel:
Bess
Beth
Nancy
Annie
Tess

scrivette · 04/09/2017 23:30

Molly or Dolly?

I really like Polly, I have only ever met one and she was beautiful and cool and not cutesy at all.

I had forgotten about this name so have added it to my list.

SuperBeagle · 04/09/2017 21:39

I love Polly. Would've been on our list, but it clashed with our surname.

PanannyPanoo · 04/09/2017 21:28

I love it.
I think that
Nancy
Bessie
Nell have a similar feel

BikeRunSki · 04/09/2017 21:19

My primary school best friend's big sister was called Polly and she was so cool. Only positive connotations here.

GoldInTheAirOfSummer · 04/09/2017 21:17

We have a primary school age Polly in the family. To our (and her) knowledge, she has never had a parrot, cracker or pocket related joke! She loves her name.

I know a very cool grown up Polly too. Would love to see somebody call her cutesy Grin

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 04/09/2017 21:16

I like Polly. It's a friends nn but very people know it's not her actual name, she always gets comments on what a lovely name it is.

INeedNewShoes · 04/09/2017 21:13

I know a wonderful grown up Polly.

It's one of those names I think the owner needs to be quite confident to pull off!

Wallywobbles · 04/09/2017 21:11

It's a family name and really very few jokes about it ever as an adult. Not ever been a problem. Great name in my view.

Sequence · 04/09/2017 21:09

I dislike it, sorry. It sounds affected and cutesy to me, but that's just a personal taste thing and clearly many on here do like it! There will always be some who like a name and some who don't, so if you love it, use it!

Liadain · 04/09/2017 20:05

It wouldn't be for me, a bit cutesy imo and I'm struggling to picture it on an adult.

I do definitely prefer it to Milly, Tilly, Molly, Billie etc though!

TheDowagerCuntess · 04/09/2017 19:34

I like Polly - probably wouldn't go for it myself, as it's a bit too nickname-ish - but it's a much better choice than the way more common Molly, Tilly, Milly, Ellie, etc.
