Could this name upset my Mum too much?

DH and I have really struggled to agree a name, & baby is overdue. We've finally discovered we both like Eloise. BUT my Dad's 2nd wife is called Louise (though she's always known as Luce). My Mum has extremely bitter feelings towards her, as there was a long standing affair before my parents split up, so much so she will not allow my sister or I to say her name in front of her, and refers to her as 'that woman'. As I'm writing this, I'm thinking maybe Eloise is a bad idea. Though it is a different name. Do you think it's too close?

Too close. How about Alice?

MadMags · 03/09/2017 22:23

Far too close. And I also think running it by your mum would be a bit cruel.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 03/09/2017 22:20

Gosh yes, too close.

It's a shame though as Eloise is a lovely name!

Ailsa?
Luna?
Lyra?

It's too close IMO. And if you ask her if it's OK she may feel she has to say it's fine, regardless of her true feelings about it.

Alice
Cara
Melissa
Juliet
Amber
Laura

I don't think that they are too close, but others think it is. Lucy is out.
Lara?

I agree not to the run it past your mum. The fact you've even considered it could really upset her.

Also

Orianna
Clarissa nn Clara or Issa
Lia

Applesandpears56 · 03/09/2017 21:00

Don't run it past her - she might not feel she can tell you how she feels about it. Just say to her we really liked Eloise but it's too close to Louise so we binned it. If she doesn't mind name she'd chip in with 'oh why it's ok...' otherwise you get points for supporting her and she'll be glad you binned it

Eliana?

TidyDancer · 03/09/2017 15:17

I agree it's too close but I definitely wouldn't run it past her. Even the suggestion would be jarring imo.

sadmonkey1 · 03/09/2017 15:11

I think it's too close.

Eleanor/ Elena aren't a million miles away from Eloise but don't have any similarity to Louise.

SuperBeagle · 02/09/2017 22:29

Eloise is much too close to Louise.

Clara is lovely.

PandorasXbox · 02/09/2017 19:26

No way could you do that to your mum.

Velvian · 02/09/2017 18:27

Eloise is a lovely name btw.

Velvian · 02/09/2017 18:25

Do you like Ellie Elena Eleni. Eliza. Erin. Esme. Erica. Eleah. Elsie. Eleri
Emelia. Emily. Enid

PenelopeFlintstone · 02/09/2017 14:39

Cleo?

Chloris33 · 02/09/2017 14:29

Thanks. Yes, I guess it's back to the drawing board. A friend's baby is Elisa, so probably not that, and DH dislikes Elodie, though I think it's pretty. We had just about agreed on Clara, and then DH started having misgivings. I'll see if he can be persuaded again! Though in meantime might run the name Eloise past my Mum as suggested.

Way too close. Elise or Elisa?

NeverTwerkNaked · 02/09/2017 14:14

I'd run it past your mum, at least it gives her a chance to think about how she feels

I am still pretty upset that my sister chose to name her son the name of my boyfriend who died, without even giving me the courtesy of a gentle acknowledgement that if might be hard for me. It really knocked me down. I love my nephew now but saying his name still makes my heart twist .

Outdoorsy5644 · 02/09/2017 14:02

Elise is a better fit, given the circumstances.
