Opinions on the name Robyn for a girl...or Robin. Is it seen as chavvy? My oh loves it but i'm not sure

I'm with SuperBeagle, not a fan of it - can't quite put my finger on why not for a girl, though. I do think it's awful and wet on a boy.

Mind you, Robina and Roberta are worse imo Grin

Dont Australia. It's not come into fashion here yet, but neither have Edith, Martha etc. So it's just a difference in trends, I guess.

We were going to call our Robyn "Robyn Hannah" but for a fairly long winded and convoluted reason, we couldn't use it so she became Robyn Joy.

Where are loads of 70 and 80 year olds called Robyn? America?

I love old lady names SuperBeagle so that's no issue (although over hear it's really not seen as an 'old' name i don't think) Robyn Isabelle is a lovely name MiaowTheCat ...and i also don't like names that an in an e sound. saritah i was thinking along the lines of Ethel or Hannah- both are names that are in the family. Leaning towards Robyn Hannah

Don't like it at all.

The only Robyns I know are in their 70s and 80s. It'd be like naming your child Jan or Edna, IMO. But I'm not in the UK, so.

Robin is our pick if it's a girl! Have you got a middle name in mind Missy? We have Robin Hazel.

People say it has to be Robin for a boy and Robyn for a girl but I don't like the "y" spelling. IMHO Robin is classier and looks much nicer written down (I always visualise names in print, so it makes a big difference). We'd be naming her after the bird as well. And unisex names (and even boy-for-girl names) seem more common these days. Not that we're at all interested in being trendy Grin

I'm glad it seems most people like it! It's definitely a strong contender and i think it goes nicely with our daughters name which is Faye (kind of woodland-y names maybe). I don't like Robina as it makes me think of ribena....roberta is quite nice but to me feels like a completely different name to Robyn/in (which i much prefer)

I don't like it, really, with either spelling. I'd prefer Robina or Roberta, and then you could shorten to Robin if you fancied.

I think it's a great name. I too prefer Robin no matter the sex. The y spelling looks a little bit clumsy to me, though it is by far the more common spelling for girls. Bobby/Bobs is an adorable nickname!

I associate Robin with a boy and Robyn with a girl. I prefer it as a girl's name - I taught a lovely girl called Robyn once.

I really don't like it for a boy, not sure why.

It means Bright Fame - suits my little Bobs down the ground.

Personally, I really think it makes from every other Evie, Daisy, Poppy, Bella, Eva, Ava out there. No offence.

I love the nn bobbie...never thought about that as a possibility. It's definitely growing on me, my oh loves it and he's really fussy about names. My dad is called rob so hopefully it wouldn't be shortened to that! It's definitely one to think about. Trouble is i have loads of names i love and oh keeps vetoing them
