Be honest: do you like the name Edmund?

Our baby boy arrived yesterday and we have announced his birth (obviously!) and that included his name - Edmund Jack.

My closest friend has outright messaged me and said Edward is much cooler... or I should swap the names around. She then knew I was a bit upset and just said she's joking and "will love him whatever his name" Sad

My mum has said "you can't call him that"... My dad made a comment about being back in the 1920s.

It's just constant and making me really quite sad. I thought people wouldn't be so rude if he was here...

Be honest: do you like the name Edmund?

It will honestly make me consider using something else.

Agree with pp who said that if they want to name a baby, they should have their own - how is this any of their business??

And I think Edmund Jack is a lovely name. Stick with it, op!

Edmund is a great choice! Rich with historical and literary references, well-known but unusual enough that it won't be "everywhere" or indeed everyone's cup of tea. I find that refreshing. I know a lovely young Edmund, just off to university now, full of youthful promise.

I think of the Chronicles of Nania when I see it or here it, there was a king Edmund so it is royal approved, it's a good solid name.

I adore it, always have so smart and more individual than Edward with all the same advantages of being able to be called Ed if he wants. Incredibly rude of people in your real life to comment adversely! Our DGC pretty much all have names which took me aback at first but it took about 10 minutes to get used to them.

Your friend was incredibly rude with her comments. Don't mind your parents, they won't know as many babies and probably don't realise half of the current top 20 names were last popular a century ago. It's a great name.

I really like it & it's on my list for our boy (but my husband isn't so keen and prefers Edgar)

I knew an Edmond once, I always thought that was a cooler way to spell it.

I like it.

Edison (mentioned above) is awful -a surname surely & sounds American. Edmund is a lovely old name.

Just be prepared we named ds1 an old fashioned name -and had loads of comments when we did. Lots of positive 'oh how unusual what a lovely name' and lots of 'sounds like an old man'. Now every other child and every other dog has the name and I miss the days it was unusual!

It's a great name. I'd rethink the middle name though as Edmund goes well with more traditional names. Edmund James pehaps?

Love it. On my list too. I love the associations with Blackadder and Narnia etc, and much prefer it to Edward. Nice to have a proper name but a bit less common.

Once a baby is here and has a name to be anything but positive about that name is just rude and unhelpful.

Its my favourite boys name. Your friend and mum are beyond rude. The correct way to deal with it is 'oh how lovely'.

Edward is a tad dull. Besides both names will be shortened to Ed anyhow.

No - I've only known two and they were both weird!

I love Edmund and happen to know two. One is my cousin and the other is afriend who we have called Mundy since we were little.

I love it. People have been horribly rude. I think it fits right in with the grandad chic trend now it's just a bit more unusual than the typical George Henry etc. I grew up with an Edmund in the 90s. Now that was unusual! He never shortened it was fully Edmund and nobody batted an eye. He's now a successful actor so it didn't do him any harm!

We liked it so much we used it! As a middle name.

We love Blackadder, Narnia and Edmund Hillary AND it was my husband's grandfather's name.
