I love Arlo - is it too popular?

I love the name Arlo but my OH is saying it's becoming too popular. What do we all think? I have 2 weeks left to decide and this is the only one sticking in my mind!

Yes, very very popular very fast. I promise it will be well in the top 100 when last years stats are released in a few weeks. It was 102 in 2015. Look at the stats for proof rather than ask for anecdote.

I love it, but the only one I've ever been aware of is Arlo Guthrie. That makes it kind of cool, though.

I'm in se. but the arlos are concentrated in certain (expensive) toddlers groups!

ime zone 2 London is overrun with toddlers called arlo. but if you like the name don't let that put you off it just makes it easier to find souvenirs with their name on x

I think I was trying to illustrate the volume of children we encounter- we live in a very built-up urban area- lots of high rises flats, estates and so therefore LOADS of kids.

And none of the ones I have met so far have been called Arlo

We named our 4 yr old Arlo. I love it. It really suits him. I've noticed one or two other Arlo's but its by no way in the same common name bracket as Jack, George, Charlie, etc.

I have a 3 year old in urban London and we have never met an Arlo at nursery or in other places that small children gather!

The only Arlo I know of is the cat off Bing

Didn't one of the high profile news presenters have a son called Arlo several years ago?

I love this name but I do think it will be very of its time & will seem dated in the future. I know of 4 Arlos under 3...and have hears it called in the park a bit. Gaining massively in popularity (as is Milo I think) & I imagine it will have risen quite a bit in the ONS.

I am due in Nov and absolutely love this name, but like you wondering how popular it is as really don't want to choose a name that is really popular. However no other names I like come close to Arlo.....so think I will wait til he's here and hopefully will know then what to call him!!!

From your list I think Arthur is nicer myself but then I prefer more traditional names. I certainly don't think Arlo is a very popular name, so I'd say use it if that's the only thing putting you off.

I would avoid Teddy; he'll be a man a lot longer than he's a cute little baby and Teddy is not so cute on a 45 year old. At least call him Edward and use Teddy/Ted as a nickname, then he's got a more grown up alternative if he prefers as an adult.

I know four young Arlos in London, but I guess it depends where you live. Its a trendy name that will probably date. Teddy is the same. Arthur probably a bit safer as it's more of a classic name even if it is also popular.

I know two. One in se England (3-4 yo) and one in Belfast (2 and a halfish). There's the good dinosaur and Arlo Guthrie too, but can't say I know them irl .

Surely the reason you have heard if it is BECAUSE its a trendy "now" name?

Ditto everyone else who "randomly" picks super fashionable names, they just get into your consciousness because they are around so much more. You don't just happen to pick a name that is bang-up trendy from nowhere.

If Winifred or Derek or something was suddenly en vogue, you'd probably be amongst the dozens of parents who suddenly landed on that 'out of the blue' too. Just like Claires and Matthews are everywhere I turn in my own peer group!

The point is, if you like it, use it. Just be prepared to be one of several parents calling the same name across the playground.

It's not to popular, popularity with a name is a regional thing any way, If you Google regional baby names bounty there is a great tool that will help you see how popular it is in your area, I'd say use it if you love it.
