Does nobody like the name Cora?

Every time I mention it to people IRL as one of my favourite names they pull an 'errrr' face haha. Have also noticed online it doesn't get the best reception.

I just think it's cute and compact!

If you dislike it are there negative connotations I wasn't aware of or is it the sound of it that grates on you? Grin

It's lovely! I met a lady at my gym/spa a few times named Cora, of Irish descent-she was gorgeous!

Love Cora (and Nora) but not Dora so much. DH has an aunt called Cora and she is very impressive.

Lots of older Irish women called Cora. No idea why it was so popular, some religious connection no doubt.

DH's name is the noise a washing machine makes apparently.

Cora is pleasant enough. Sounds a bit East End landlady in a pinny. Probably in a Beryl Bainbridge novel.

Ooh, I love Cora. I didn't really hear of it, until after DD was born, which was a shame, although she has a lovely name too!

It's reminds me of Lady Cora Crawley from Downton Abbey so I reckon it sounds all aristo and posh (in a good way).

Reminds me of the Palliser novels, Lady Glencora was called Cora for short and yes I like it too.

FreakinDeacon That's one of the things that made me want to ask this! Because I saw comments on their vlogs along the lines of 'why would you name your baby that' and thought oh dear is it just me who thinks it's lovely. Glad you lot have proved me wrong

I like it. The much more interesting sister from the Last of the Mohicans is called Cora (from the book, not the film).
