Hi, what's your opinion on Marley for a boy ? I think it's quite a sweet name (i had a hamster years ago called Marley 😃) but I just can't imagine a grown man being called this. I have other names on my list but just wondered what others thought as not seen this name mentioned on here!

  1. Marley and Me
  2. Bob Marley

Those are my (and judging from PP's most people's) associations with Marley. I don't know anyone named Marley. It's nice enough though if it's your style.

Liadain · 25/08/2017 21:59

Dog and/or reggae. And also a park in Dublin.

I think it's a terrible name, tbh.

beaglesarethebest · 25/08/2017 21:56

I think it's a lovely name. I'd chose what you love and don't give much thought to negative opinions if it's a name you like :)

AmyGardner · 25/08/2017 17:14

It would make me think the kids parents are or were massive stoners.

ErrolTheDragon · 25/08/2017 16:41

Dog or ghost.

I suppose you could use it as a nickname for a Marlon?

emilybrontescorset · 25/08/2017 16:33

Marley and me.

Alisvolatpropiis · 25/08/2017 00:56

No

WaitrosePigeon · 25/08/2017 00:22

I know a boy called Marley. He's really sweet and kind.

Subla2401 · 24/08/2017 23:23

I think it's a lovely name for a boy Smile

PointlessUsername · 24/08/2017 16:39

I know a boy Named Marley and a girl Marlee.

Nice name.

BakewellSliceAgain · 24/08/2017 16:38

Marley's ghost.

BigApples · 24/08/2017 16:34

I know a teenage boy called Marley. His parents aren't reggae fans they just liked the name. It really suits him!

upperlimit · 24/08/2017 16:32

I think of Marley's ghost and particularly the one in the Albert Finney version. At least it's a name and not just a collection of letters masquerading as a name.

pilates · 24/08/2017 16:30

Sorry, ok for a dog, not great for a boy and awful for a man.

Ipanema01 · 24/08/2017 16:25

I know a 6 year old Marley and it suits him perfectly - I like it!

Abbyll · 20/08/2017 21:37

Really annoys me when people say it's a dogs/cats name. It's a name!! I have horses and if I ruled out every name a dig/cat or horse has been called there wouldn't be much left. By the way our babys name is going to be Felix! And I hate cats!!! Go with what you like as as soon as baby is here all other connections fade. I love Marley.

daisypond · 19/08/2017 18:01

Marley is both type of flooring and a synthetic drug - both would put me off using it as a name.

EggysMom · 19/08/2017 17:17

DS's middle name is Marley - but that's because it's a family surname. He was named just before the film was released, now everybody thinks he was named for a dog

PoppyPopcorn · 19/08/2017 17:14

I know two people called Marley - both female.

fussychica · 19/08/2017 17:12

I'm old so Marley tiles come to mind first followed by Marley and Me. Sorry.

fluffiphlox · 19/08/2017 17:06

"Marley was dead: to begin with." opening lines of 'A Christmas Carol'.

Saucysausages · 19/08/2017 17:02

How about Marnie?
It's exactly the same apart from one syllable and 100% an unusual girls name

Mrsknackered · 17/08/2017 19:31

I would assume his parent(s) were Bob Marley fans. I like it for a boy. Prefer Marlowe/Malo though.
