Be kind. Thoughts on Jackson, Nova and our "other list"

We do not know what we are having but after thinking we had our names laid out... We changed our mind, and it seems we keep changing it.

We agreed on the name Jax for a boy but that's now changed to Jackson. I really wanted Jack but DP said no way.

We agreed on either Talia, Mila, Lara or Kady for a girl (see where we had trouble) but I now like Nova. DP yet to form a opinion solidly on the name yet but loves Lara which is my least favourite out the choices.

How do you know when you've found "the name" ?

Also for a boy do you prefer Jackson, Jax or Jack. And a girl Mila, Talia, Lara, Kady or Nova?

Boys middle name is Ph in sound and girls is Beh in sound if that at all matters.

Jack is so much nicer than Jackson, which is obviously just a surname meaning 'Jack's son'. Perhaps Jax/Jaxon is marginally better than Jackson, but what's wrong with just Jack? Other alternatives could be Jacques or Jake.

From your girls' names I really love Mila and Lara. Not keen on Kady, for one thing people might hear it as 'Katie'. Nothing wrong with Nova, but for some reason it seems like the name of a Science Fiction character.

X post. But comment stands, they do sound American to me. Not that that's a problem, just an observation.

PotteringAlong · 14/08/2017 13:37

Not jax or kady.

averythinline · 14/08/2017 13:37

Jackson or Jack (DS was Jack for a long time but then changed when he was born but has Jackson as one of his names!)

Lara probably favourite of your girls names- then Mila, Talia..

Are you American? Your names sound like you are.....

To be honest I like any of boys names but popularity worries me... A little. I know Jack was ridiculously popular for years, but I never seem to hear of it now. I'm in central Scotland but always hear "oh that's so popular" from others?

The Lara one grates just a little due to Lara Croft but it actually goes lovely with our surname and sounds really strong. So I'm kinda swaying on it.

Jack and Mila.

Nova as in Vauxhall Nova? Confused

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 14/08/2017 13:33

Jackson and Lara.

Nova is a sort of car. And means "doesn't go" in Spanish. (There was much amusement in Spain about that)

Go for Jack if you like it.

OhOhDearling · 14/08/2017 13:31

Jax is OK but I've know girls use it as an abbreviation for Jacqueline. With girls' names I'm not keen on Kady or Nova at all. A bit too unusual.

Boy - definitely Jack. I don't really like the other two personally.
