Be kind. Thoughts on Jackson, Nova and our "other list"

We do not know what we are having but after thinking we had our names laid out... We changed our mind, and it seems we keep changing it.

We agreed on the name Jax for a boy but that's now changed to Jackson. I really wanted Jack but DP said no way.

We agreed on either Talia, Mila, Lara or Kady for a girl (see where we had trouble) but I now like Nova. DP yet to form a opinion solidly on the name yet but loves Lara which is my least favourite out the choices.

How do you know when you've found "the name" ?

Also for a boy do you prefer Jackson, Jax or Jack. And a girl Mila, Talia, Lara, Kady or Nova?

Boys middle name is Ph in sound and girls is Beh in sound if that at all matters.

Lara is lovely. Stick with that - and as it's your DP's choice then throw in some new boy ones from your side?

Jackson is not as good as Jack and he will end up as Jack anyway! Both quite boring, Jackson a bit naff. Start again is my advice!

I'm not keen on Rourke but here are some other ideas:

Struan

Heath

Rhodri

Rory

Cormac

Seth

Caleb

Louis

and Max is great!

OnNaturesCourse · 17/08/2017 10:36

I still haven't found any boys names to both our likings.

DP has grown to love Nova however and the marvel connection actually helped that. Talia is from Batman so has a DC connection. It all very popular in our house!

A name that has oddly grown on me in the past few days is Aaron, but I used to hate that name so it could be baby name fog that causing it!

I never in my life thought naming someone would be this hard lol.

Nova is awful - people will either think car or super hero. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nova_(Sam_Alexander)

Nola is nice though, I know a small Nola. Also love Mila. Jackson is OK but whether you like Jack or not, it'll end up being his name if you call him Jackson.

greendale17 · 15/08/2017 22:56

Jack and Mila

HeteronormativeHaybales · 15/08/2017 22:49

Jackson, Jax = awful.
Jack = not keen, and far too popular.
Lara = nice.
Talia = lovely. Spell it Thalia and you've named her after the muse of comedy.
Mila and Nova are very similar in vibe IMO, and not my thing at all but qutie cool, actually.
Kady - no, just don't.
How about Nina?

YourVagesty · 15/08/2017 21:04

Love Nova, a very pretty name

Theveryhungrybutterfly · 15/08/2017 20:56

Max is a perfectly lovely and proper name given to lots of boys - definitely not (only) a dogs name. Maximilian/Maximus/Maxim etc.

Agree Jax is a bit uneeq. Don't like Jackson personally, its a surname, but that's my taste. Jack is nice but I see why you are concerned it's too common. Better than being unusual for the sake of it though, it will age much better.

Rourke is really dreadful, sorry! Roman, Ralph, Reuben, Rowan?

Lara, Mila, Lena, Lyra, Stella all nice.

Montsti · 15/08/2017 20:43

Mila & Jack😊

diddl · 15/08/2017 18:27

Max & Lara.

Also like Nova though as my u had a lovely cousin with that name.

She would be in her 80s if still with us.

dinosaurkisses · 15/08/2017 18:16

Jackson/ Jax will be the Darren of this generation- it'll really date, like anything linked with pop culture (I'm guessing your DP likes it after the main guy from Sons of Anarchy?)

Jack is a classic name which was popular for a reason- it's lovely

OnNaturesCourse · 15/08/2017 18:12

Not a fan of Dexter. Reminds me of the TV show about the serial killer lol.

I wish I had pushed more with Rourke. Maybe need to bring it back up... Any ideas how to convince DP? Lol.

Ignore day silly phone!

MammieBear · 15/08/2017 16:04

Jackson is good, very popular round day where I am (Merseyside) and Nova has a lovely meaning.

EvelynWardrobe · 15/08/2017 15:31

You need to keep going until you hit that spot that you hit with Rourke.

For what it's worth I think Jack is beyond dull, up there with the Evies and Sophies of the world.

Jax and Jackson are a bit uneeq, IMO.

Of your choices I really like Mila. Lara is fine, but a bit meh, and it doesn't sound like you love it if it grates on you.

What about Dashiell NN Dax?

If you like Luna do you like Nola? Stella?

PearlyPinkNails · 15/08/2017 15:23

Not Jackson, everyone will think you've named him after the weirdo who slept with young children in his bed.

If you like x, what about Dexter?

tazzy73 · 15/08/2017 15:19

Lara or Jack or Jackson for me.

In Ireland Jax is slang for a toilet. Don't know if you know that.

I've had 2 dogs called Max. I would automatically think of it as a dogs name.

OnNaturesCourse · 15/08/2017 12:24

It's possibly just my family as we did, in the extended family, have a dog called Max. Rex is the same I know a dog by that name.

OP posts:
Creatureofthenight · 15/08/2017 12:20

Talia or Mila.
Jack or Max - doesn't make me think of dogs name!

OnNaturesCourse · 15/08/2017 12:16

Absolutely fine. I kinda feel that about Jack too but I can't think of names with the same Jac/Jax sound like aren't either french or doggy sounding 😭

OP posts:
OhHellNoUK · 15/08/2017 11:44

Of your girls names, Talia stands out. It's beautiful. If you're from Scotland, i would give Kady a miss. When i say it aloud, it sounds like i'm saying "Katie" in a rather pretentious accent.

I would chose Jack from your boys list, but like someone else said, it's incredibly popular and, dare i say, slightly boring. Sorry OP. x

starkid · 15/08/2017 10:00

I wonder why he likes Lara best Wink

Decaffstilltastesweird · 15/08/2017 09:59
  1. Jackson (nice)
  2. Jack (nice, but a bit blah)
  3. Jax (I think this is horrid
  • sorry. It sounds like a nickname for a cheesy guy from the 90s to me, or a slang word for bottom).

I like Lara. Not mad on any of the other girl names.

starkid · 15/08/2017 09:59

Out of those I liked Talia, Mila, Lara and Jack most.

OnNaturesCourse · 15/08/2017 08:37

I am finding a lot of baby boy names sound dull and boring to either me or DP. We definitely seem to have different taste and the Jax/Jac sounding names seem to be the only names we can agree on. Which is very limiting and frustrating.

I really like Max which Maxxie as NN for when they are little but I'm constantly told it's a dogs name.

I love Luna but it got thrown out the window due to the Harry Potter connection that DP just wasn't backing, along with Rowena (Although Talia is from Batman. Go figure how that's OK in his eyes lol)

OP posts:
MollyHuaCha · 15/08/2017 08:35

Jack and Lara from your list.

(Please not Jax or Jackson...)
