Uncommon baby name help

Baby is due soon and we're struggling with names. I don't want a very common name where there are 2 or more kids with the same name in their class, but not something too tricky to spell/say/too out there. We have a fairly common two syllable surname so have mostly been looking at longer first names.

Boy names:
Dylan (too common?)
Caspian (too out there?)
Finnian
Cassian

Girls names:
Avalyn
Riona (my fave, DH less keen)
Alicia
Natalia
Lorena

All opinions welcome or alternative suggestions!

MammieBear · 15/08/2017 16:34

It's tricky choosing a name just to be different. There are no top ten names in my ds's class at all. Yet there are two Owens and two Otis's.

My favourite less common names are:

Ferdinand/ Ferdy
Ambrose
Kit

Decaffstilltastesweird · 15/08/2017 10:44

I really like Caspian and Natalia.

I don't like Riona at all (sorry). It just isn't a pleasant sound to me. How about Flora or Romilly with nn Romy?

Dylan is one of the most popular boy names where I live, second only to Noah. I don't think that's the case everywhere though and may just be coincidence that there are a lot of little Dylans in my area. It is a sweet name though, which is probably why it's popular here!

JimmysMum1988 · 15/08/2017 10:08

Franklin for a boy

LOVE Natalia

starkid · 15/08/2017 10:01

I like Dylan, Natalia and Lorena

Footle · 15/08/2017 07:36

Really uncommon baby names?
Joan and Gilbert.

MikeUniformMike · 14/08/2017 20:20

How do you pronounce Avalyn? I think it looks like Avalon.

SerfTerf · 14/08/2017 19:33

(Avalyn and Adalyn sound like something from a country and western song.)

SerfTerf · 14/08/2017 19:32

Fuschia or Emil

whosahappyharry · 14/08/2017 19:30

I know a baby Adalyn, spelled Addelyn. Gets called Addie most of the time. I think it's really pretty, and actually think the Adalyn spelling is much nicer.

Threeandabit · 14/08/2017 19:11

What about Rona? It means "My joy"

I like Finnian and Dylan, and Saskia.

Sophronia · 14/08/2017 01:05

How about Fabian or Florian?

Yika · 13/08/2017 21:40

Nerissa is lovely.
I also like Adalyn or Avalyn

What about
Rina
Naia
Merryn
Maren

I find Caspian a bit fanciful but it's a nice name and not complicated to spell or pronounce so why not?

Others maybe
Gaspard
Corin
Balthazar
Orlando

early30smum · 13/08/2017 21:25

LOVE Saskia. Was on our list for DD.

RiverTam · 13/08/2017 20:54

Oh, I like the name Cassian, Rogue One is the Best Star Wars Film Ever â„¢ and Cassian is a great character!

I life Ofelia, which in my head I pronounce Ofaylia rather than Ophelia pronounced Opheelia, but that might just be me and I daresay she'd spend a lifetime correcting either spelling or pronunciation so ignore me.

WaxOnFeckOff · 13/08/2017 20:42

Just seen your update, Saskia is nice and maybe Vanessa rather than Narissa? Audra/Audrey? Julia/Juliet?

WaxOnFeckOff · 13/08/2017 20:40

Similar style

Cassius
Miles
Keir
Marcus

Amarys
Maura
Mara
Meredith

turtletum · 13/08/2017 20:40

Thanks all - really helpful. I do really like Dylan and Caspian and Dylan may not be too common, yay. I wasn't sure about Finnian/Finn and you've helped rule that out. No one seems keen on Cassian? Yes it is also used in Rogue One but didn't make the connection until I rewatched the film the other week, not so sure on it now.

Girls names proving more tricky. I love Riona, I'd pronounce it as in Fiona although it does have other variations, but dh has now said he hates the name. We both quite like Natalia and Alicia but not sure we love either enough?

Other thoughts for girl names:
Felia/Ophelia
Nerissa
Adalyn
Saskia

Are these hideous/pretentious or nice? I secretly like Nerissa but not sure if its too out there?

I quite like Ramona...will run that past dh.

I like Finnion and Natalia.

Bloody love pp's suggestion of Ramona.

TroysMammy · 13/08/2017 19:49

Ramona, my favourite childhood book and Troy after my beautiful, special cat. Go on OP, name your baby after my cat, he was gorgeous.

RiverTam · 13/08/2017 19:45

Cassian (is this Diego Luna's character in Rogue One?)
Natalia
