'Chavvy' name.

So for baby no 1 we considered Caleb, however we had a beautiful girl instead. Was considering Caleb again for baby number 2 but saw a post the other day where someone referred to it as a 'chavvy' name 'like Kayden and Jayden' (their words not mine) do people agree with this comment?! I see it as a biblical name (and the singer from Kings of Leon,actually)
Other contender is Rafferty. Middle name will be James.

Well I have a Caleb and I'm not "chavvy" At least I don't think I am? Who knows though. If someone can send me a list of what makes someone a "chav" maybe I can find out.

Weird that loads of people on this post have said it is, as usually it's quite a mumsnet approved name, with it being nice and biblical.

Anyway OP, stop overthinking and worrying about other people's unimportant opinions and choose a name you like.

And Caleb is definitely better than Rafferty (not that I'm utterly biased! Wink)

Both lovely names but In this area (east London) Rafferty would be seen as more chavvy than Caleb!
Caleb us a wonderful name and Caleb James is perfect!

Yes Mumsnet is full of Katie Hopkins! 😂😂 I do think everyone judges names though, some people are just more polite about it though.

Exactly LoyaltyAndLobster. My ds1 has a "posh" name for our family, my sister said "ooh our first posh name!". Ds2 is very biblical, despite me being a devout atheist.

I'd like to think we live in a society where anyone can happily name their child any name (within reason! Not Nutella or MoonUnit23345). Can't bear snobbery around names.

I would not say Caleb was 'chavvy' at all, at least no evidence of that here.

Rafferty on the other hand is really naff and try hard.

My best friend is having a Cohen so that is off the cards.
We would probably call Rafferty Rafe as a diminutive, not sure we would use it as a stand alone name but it's a possibility.

Not a fan of raffetty but same as you with I few names mentioned I have taught one..... Confused! I love Caleb I think it's a lovely name! Think it's so funny katie Hopkins got so much abuse for being horrible about kids names and clearly loads of people are doing it!

Caleb has had an upsurge here too. It's not very common but you do hear it. I know a staffie (really nice one) called Caleb.

Rafferty isn't to my taste but if you really like it...

But it's a bit embarrassing if you're not posh to have a posh kids name. Maybe you are posh though, I don't know

I love both names. Were contenders for both my son's, but didn't make the final cut.

Instead of Caleb, how about Cohen?

I love Rafferty, but live in the South West of England where it would be pronounced Raffer eee Sad Do you like Rafe as an alternative? Or Nate? Just chucking ideas around!

Rafferty is chavvy?
So far it's too posh, too try hard, too poncey, too celeb and now chavvy.
I think this thread is making me realise everyone has very different opinions on name categories.

Unfortunately I work in an all boys behavioural school and teach both an Isaac and a Finely so they are both no goers. Not sure about Raphael but like that we could still use Rafe. One to mention to OH.

So Rafferty just sounds like an Irish name to me. I know nothing about Jude Law.
Caleb sounds a bit American to me for some reason Hmm

What about Issac? Fintan? Finley? Raphael?

Caleb is a lovely solid name. Dd has two Caleb friends.

I think Caleb depends on the circles you mix in, if you're churchy, then Caleb will be seen as biblical, if you're anywhere near 'chavvy' it could be taken that way, sorry.

I don't think of Caleb as being at all similar to the other examples. Rafferty is much too posh for me, but I do live up North Smile

How do you know I'm not posh? What do you define as posh?
So if I'm posh go with Rafferty and if I'm a chav go with Caleb? I'll keep that in mind.
