Girls names shortlist. Noa for a girl??

Ceebs85 · 07/08/2017 11:00

I've posted a couple of times during pregnancy about names. We are now 5 days from my due date and no closer to choosing. DP decided we should each make a shortlist of 3 and they're not anything alike.

Mine:
Alice or Alissa
Lois
Georgia

His:
Marnie
Casey
Piper

One of the problems with Marnie is that we're in the north and he refers to his sister for example 'our'(insert name) so Marnie could come to sound like Armani. Another problem is I just don't like it lol.

A compromise would be Alexa as we both like it moderately but amazon have poached it.

We got talking about boys names this morning and both agreed we like Noah then I stupidly asked if a girl called Noa would be ridiculous. He now loves that.

Sorry this is so long but does anyone have any thoughts about compromise names based on our likes. Or any thoughts on Noa?

Love marnie and alexa! In few years anazon will have come out with something else so it won't matter!
Don't like noa for a girl though.

Goodluck for the birth!!!

MammieBear · 15/08/2017 16:12

Marnie is Lovely, I wouldn't say it sounds like armani, would you consider Maisie?
If not your compromise name Alexa is good but Alissa is better, I see where your coming from with Amazon, what about Alexandra on the bc? Or Alessandra is nice that gives you Alessa similar to your Alissa.

Good luck! Love Noa

Awandinmypocket · 15/08/2017 08:01

Good luck! Please let us know what you choose! Noa is beautiful :)

Nao is also a name ..Nayo..as in thhe begining of Naomi. I think its lovely.

Discobabe98 · 15/08/2017 03:27

I like Noa, do you like Noelle at all? Could be a longer version with Noa as a NN.

Also along the lines of Casey is Carey if you like that.

But I really like Noa :-)

Thanks for opinions! Feeling a lot happier now. Just got to wait to meet her and see what she suits! Stretch and sweep booked for Monday Grin

My friend has a little girl called Noa. ❤️ It

Sophronia · 07/08/2017 23:35

Love Noa for a girl. I like the Noah spelling too.

ClamBakeSnake · 07/08/2017 23:19

Piper is my least favourite of all the names you've listed.

Littlepond · 07/08/2017 23:17

I like Noa. I love Marnie, and I don't think the Armani / Our Marnie thing is a problem. I also really love Piper. REALLY love it. It's a name I regret not using, I really wanted it for DD.

SuperBeagle · 07/08/2017 23:14

I love Georgia and Piper.

Not a fan of the rest, and I strongly dislike Noa. I understand that it's a girls name in the Jewish culture, but unless you're a part of that culture, people are going to assume your Noa is a boy (and that his name is misspelt) on seeing the name.

pilates · 07/08/2017 22:10

Alice or Georgia are nice, but dislike Noa - it looks like you have missed off some letters. Not keen on any of your DH's names.

MrsCharlieD · 07/08/2017 21:46

Noa was on my list but we're having a boy. It's a common girls name in Israel I believe. I also loved Elena and Nora. I would definitely go for Noa, I think it's beautiful.

SueGeneris · 07/08/2017 21:32

There's also Noelia, which I think is Spanish. Pronounced No-ay-lia.

Orangebird69 · 07/08/2017 21:29

Noa is lovely. Lois was my top name if ds had been a dd 💗

Singingforsanity · 07/08/2017 21:28

How about Noelle or Naomi? I love Noelle :)

Yika · 07/08/2017 20:59

I noa little Noa (sorry :), age 6). I love her name now but I did inwardly raise an eyebrow when I first met her (as in: Noa for a girl?!). I soon discovered it's a well established girl's name.

I have to say, I like every one of the names on both you and your DH's list! (Marnie probably the least though - Lois, Georgia and Casey the best).

Alexa is just lovely, lots of product names are human names. What about Alix? Carey? Cailey?

Ceebs85 · 07/08/2017 19:38

I'm so pleased. I know it should matter what others think but it is good to have a bit of a sounding board. Obviously we'll wait to see what she suits.

Loooove Noa for a girl. Glam and grown up but still sweet. My change bag is called the Noa Grin (as is everyone else's, they all have that bag!!)

Seems to be a lot of people considering it at the mo - I am expecting DC2 and on my Babycentre birth group there are at least 3 people considering it. It's kind of one of those names a lot of people won't be 'brave' enough for though, so don't think it will gain popularity for a few years until enough 'brave' people use it IYSWIM.

user1471547428 · 07/08/2017 16:45

Noa is a pretty hebrew name. It's not made up from the boy's version so I wouldn't worry about using it.

aliya84 · 07/08/2017 14:44

Noa is really lovely, sounds like a good solution Smile

squoosh · 07/08/2017 14:37

I like Alexa but like you would worry Amazon have ruined it. I like Alyssa though. Or Elise?

squoosh · 07/08/2017 14:36

Wouldn't a Nora in the North not get lots of Nora Batty comments from older relatives.

The Our Marnie thing would be a bit of a pain. You'd be paranoid people thought you'd named your child Armani.
