Manon (for a girl)

It's very popular in France and familiar in Wales (slightly different pronunciations obviously), but we live in England so not sure how it would be received.

There is a Manon aged 15 at DS's school. Not aware there has ever been any issues re teasing

Is it pronounced Man-on or May-non? Im pretty sure I'm not a fan either way, sorry!

I'm not surprised the peers of a 20 month old have yet to think of that one. Also not surprised that adults are refraining from teasing a toddler.

Unfortunately I don't think this is a name a girl growing up in England would much appreciate.

I meant to say - people know it's a French name and France isn't that far away so chances are people would be familiar with it iyswim...

I know a Manon - 20 month old. Not once has 'Man on' been alluded to! It is indeed a very lovely French name. I'd go for it if I were you. Its beautiful.

I am English and think it is a perfectly acceptable name. I have known a few and no one laughed at them

I like the name and it's connections (Jean De Florette and Manon Des Sources). However, I think you need to consider what it could be shortened to- Man and Manny aren't good. Sorry, I really do like it as a name but I don't think it will work (unless you are French/live in France?).

I'm afraid, in England, it really looks like it would be read as 'man on' which isn't really what you want to be called (no idea if there is a different, 'correct' pronunciation ?)
