Judith

I am expecting no.3 and struggling with girls names. My other 2 have classic, international names (I think). They are names that have been around for many hundreds of years anyway. Any thoughts on Judith? I want timeless, easy to shorten names, not fussy or overly pretty or trendy names.
Thanks

My initial reaction was a bit "urgh, old fashioned" but reading the replies and reading Judith several times, it's grown on me. Lots of options for shortening which is good imo.
How about: u
Meredith
Edith
Elsie
Julia

PuckeredAhole · 30/07/2017 06:58

Horrid. I used to know the most boring, insipid person called Judith and the name suited her.

ConstanceCraving · 30/07/2017 06:57

Plain.

KoalaDownUnder · 30/07/2017 06:57

It's awful. Fusty and dull, in the vein of Barbara or Janet.

Alittlepotofrosie · 30/07/2017 06:56

Judith is an old lady name and not in a good way. Judy is better, miriam or meredith shortened to Merry/Mirri is cute.

Helspopje · 30/07/2017 06:55

My will never be used 'classic' names are

Constance
Rosalind
Hannah
Juliana
Alexandra
Clara

Thank you for the replies. I want opinions so no upset here. I don't love it, but I don't love anything! So suggestions are very welcome. Thanks

I like it, it's my grandma's name. She goes by Judy.

I knew a few Judiths; all of them shortened it to Jude, which I quite like. I think it's likely we'll see lots of names like this returning before long.

lazycrazyhazy · 30/07/2017 01:58

I think it fits the zeitgeist in that lots of old biblical names are 'in'. I'm from the last generation of Judiths in their 60s now. So yes due a revival I'd say.

Sophronia · 30/07/2017 01:06

It's a very strong sounding name, in comparison to Mia, Daisy, Tilly etc.

thebigbluedustbin · 30/07/2017 01:03

Timeless. I love it.

notangelinajolie · 30/07/2017 00:41

There is something very lovely about Judith. Yes, it's a name that isn't around very much anymore but that doesn't mean anything. Way back in the 70's my first best (ever so posh) friend at school was Judith (Judy) and she was the loveliest, kindest, sweetest soul I have ever known.

ExplodedCloud · 30/07/2017 00:37

For some reason it smacks of repression to me Confused. Judy is jolly, Jude is earnest but Judith is a woman who struggles.
The strange thing is I don't know a Judith!

Joeybee · 30/07/2017 00:32

I like Judith. it's pretty dated...but I think it's totally useable and lovely and ready for a comeback.

Alyx80 · 30/07/2017 00:29

It's awful sorry.

BikeRunSki · 30/07/2017 00:28

I think it sounds harsh and ugly, even though I know a few and they are all lovely!

Pallisers · 30/07/2017 00:27

Not a huge fan but it is fine. It feels kind of dry to me for some reason.

I prefer Julia or Juliet

TheForgetfulCat · 30/07/2017 00:25

Super name. Every Judith I know is Jude, is that the shortening you'd be after?

Julia is also a lovely option.

LorLorr2 · 30/07/2017 00:22

Ahh I don't like to be a downer but I strongly dislike Judith on a poor 2017 baby. Agree with suggestion above that Julia would be a good idea!
Other ideas Eve, Helen, Marie, Esther, Erin, Laura/Lara, Sadie

punkpuffin · 30/07/2017 00:14

Personally I don't like it. I think Edith is much better.

NC4now · 30/07/2017 00:14

Not for me but if you like it, go for it.
Personally I prefer Julia if you're going down that road.

Refilona · 30/07/2017 00:14

I like it too. Refreshing in a sea of Ellas, Mias, Sophias and Islas (which are lovely names but it's nice to have something different!)

SonicBoomBoom · 30/07/2017 00:11

I think it's due a revival.
