I am expecting no.3 and struggling with girls names. My other 2 have classic, international names (I think). They are names that have been around for many hundreds of years anyway. Any thoughts on Judith? I want timeless, easy to shorten names, not fussy or overly pretty or trendy names.
Thanks

She is called Meg!

s3tut0y3r · 21/03/2020 19:57

It's fine as a name. Another option Helen? Helen had a face to launch a thousand ships. Judith beheaded Holofernes...

midsomermurderess · 21/03/2020 05:04

I like it, feels fresh and strong. As for Julie, Good, and I can't emphasise this enough, grief.

DramaAlpaca · 21/03/2020 02:48

Yes, Judith is a very nice name.

But why, oh why do people insist on bumping old threads?

Bezalelle · 20/03/2020 17:53

I love Judith. I'm considering it for DC if a girl, along with Ruth and Esther. No-nonsense names!

UnrulySalvia · 20/03/2020 09:28

Gah! Posted on the wrong thread!

Anyway i like it op.😉

Staffori · 20/03/2020 00:40

Judith and Jude are OK but I hate Judy.

I love the name Judith. It is very beautiful, and has one of the most lovely and worthy nicknames, Jude. For me, the only name that runs Judith/Jude close, is Emily/Em.
Emily sounds more feminine and melodic, but there is just something about Judith that I cannot describe and owns by heart.
Judith is such a beautiful name.

pilates · 03/08/2017 00:05

Awful, sorry

chocatoo · 02/08/2017 22:31

I like Jude but not Judith...bit too frumpy sounding for me. Imagine her as a funky teenager.

Fettuccinecarbonara · 02/08/2017 22:10

If it's good enough for Rick Grimes....

EmmyInTheSticks · 02/08/2017 22:01

Lynne is nice, I considered Linnea for my dd but felt it was too Scandinavian with no links there.

blinkineckmum · 02/08/2017 21:05

I quite like Esther. Love Susannah but can't use it. Very much dislike Tabitha. I also like Lynne - what can that be short for?

I'd forgotten about Esther. That's one of my favourites.
I'm a Rachel and can vouch for it. It serves me well!

EmmyInTheSticks · 02/08/2017 18:25

I'm not keen on it and I like sensible, grown up names generally.

I love Julia and Diana - both good international names.

Chrisinthemorning · 02/08/2017 18:05

I know a Judith (she's 40 something) and she is often called Judy.
She's lovely so on that basis I like it.
It also makes me think of the Walking Dead, especially for a baby, in which case she's a lil ass kicker Grin

CruCru · 02/08/2017 18:02

Judith is a lovely name. A PP said that she could imagine a 40 year old Judith but not a child. This makes me like it more.

SirVixofVixHall · 02/08/2017 15:45

Sophronia- I also like Susannah and Ruth. All those names are of a type that is very underused now. We clearly like the same names! My father's cousins (born in the 30s and 40s) were Judith and Susan.

Sophronia · 02/08/2017 15:19

I love Jennifer/Jenny too! So underused nowadays.

SirVixofVixHall · 02/08/2017 15:12

And Jennifer/Jenny. Love that. I have never met a nasty Jenny!

SirVixofVixHall · 02/08/2017 15:11

Oh yes, Esther, and Miriam. Love those too. Not Tabitha though, always gets shortened to Tabby, too cutesy.
