What do you think of baby girl...

Deborah? That spelling...not Debra, not to be shortened to Debbie (if possible - I know I can't control this with friends in the future, etc!!). Just Deborah?

Not keen.

I think like so many it's because it's a 'normal' name of our generation.
Not new enough to be interesting and not old enough to be due a rerun.
It'll probably be really popular with our grandchildren though.

Ah I like it, it's very refreshing. I'm not a massive fan of Deb/Debbie though - if you aren't either, I wouldn't go for it.

I find it hard to imagine a baby Deborah though!

I like it. It's not dated, it's a classic biblical name that just hasn't come back into fashion yet. Although I can't read it without starting to sing the Pulp song in my head.

Not keen. Also reminds me of women in their 40s/50s who will have friends called Sharon. I don't think enough time has passed to name it "old lady chic" yet

I'm a Deborah (in a generation of emma's, sarah's and jane's). I have never loved my name, but I've never hated it. I was the only one in my year at school (my twin sister had a few namesakes in our year). Yes, it was shortened...people who know me call me Debs....I hate "Debbie". I've had Disco 2000 sung at me many a time (and thought for a long time that my name didn't suit me - but I think I've grown into it). I do have to spell it over the phone quite often.

I like the name Deborah. I only know two though, of different generations; one in her late fifties and one in her early thirties. Both are shortened to Debbie or Deb though. I think with longer names like Deborah, shortenings are almost inevitable tbh.

I like Deborah. Yes it could be seen as a little dated but it's got biblical roots. You may be ahead of the curve OP. Good solid choice and she'll probably be the only one in a sea of Ellies, Islas and Evies.

It will defube shortened and she'll be forever correcting people.

I've known:
Deborah - always and v angry if shortened, so pretty much daily;
Debbie - never Deborah or Deb;
Deb - Deborah okay but ballistic if Debbie.

I have an auntie Debby ... nice enough name for a middle aged woman ... I'd have been embarrassed in HS to be a Debs surrounded by Ava's, Unas and Roses

I really like it, but be prepared for a nick name to evolve because it does happen. Not always of course but lots of DD friends names have been shortened by them.

There is a Joanna who is known as jojo and her mum hates it. There is a Susan who hates her name and goes by susie, her mum isn't happy. There is a molly who gets called dolly, again the mum isn't happy as she called her DD molly not dolly. There is an Andre who goes by Andy but parents are happy with, also Steven who is known now as stevie, parents ok: dans parents are not so happy as they called their son Daniel; equally cammy's parents are aghast that Cameron is no longer know as such. DD is 16, friends from 15-17 ish

So yes the name is nice but the idea that you can't shorten will be taken from you before these kids even hit high school

I'm not mad on it but quite like Diane and don't mind Joanne. There's a reason those names were popular!

It makes me laugh when people describe names like Deborah as 'no, no, it's dated' yet describe names like Ava, Mabel etc as 'gorgeous'.
Why are we such slaves to fashion?

Nothing wrong with it, it's a perfectly acceptable name in a sea of made up names it is lovely hear it being considered again.. How refreshing!!
