What are your thoughts and impressions of Nathaniel?

Also would you shorten it? I don't think I would

And how many Nathaniel's do you know

I loved the name Nathaniel however dh did not. We now have a gorgeous 7 year old called Nathan. Only one family member occasionally calls him Nate but his school peers have never shortened it.

redfragglebiker · 30/07/2017 10:45

We loved it but couldn't have it as it sounds ridiculous with our surname. We've just found out we're having a girl in any case but were a bit gutted we couldn't have used Nathaniel for a boy

hellejuice91 · 30/07/2017 10:41

I really like this name and have known two. It can be shortened to:
Nat
Nate
Nathan

mrsnoon · 28/07/2017 05:24

I have a Nathaniel, don't really shorten it much - Nat very occasionally.

Joeybee · 28/07/2017 04:46

@TheSeaTheSkyTheSeaTheSkyyyyyy YES...I'd never heard the name Nathaniel until Six Feet Under, and I fell in love with it, and it's been on my list ever since.

SuperBeagle · 27/07/2017 22:41

Don't like it at all. It sounds nasally to me. But I don't like any N names, really (don't like Nathan or Nate either).

The one Nathaniel I know gets called Nat for short, as in Nat from Natalie or Natasha.

SweetheartTreacleTart · 27/07/2017 22:39

Lovely name.

pilates · 27/07/2017 22:37

I like it and would shorten to Nate 👍

grufallosfriend · 27/07/2017 22:32

But Natty is worse Shock

grufallosfriend · 27/07/2017 22:32

Nathaniel is nice. If you have to shorten, I'd choose Nathan.

Don't like Nat or Nate at all, sorry.

MrsCharlieD · 27/07/2017 18:38

Nathaniel shortened to Nate was on our list. We've chosen something else now but are using Nathaniel as a middle name. I think it's a lovely name and underused which appeals to me as I don't like popular names.

Sophronia · 27/07/2017 16:42

Love it! My DH also doesn't like it! I would shorten it either to Nat or Nate. I know one in his early 20s who spells it Nathanael.

Bumpitup44 · 27/07/2017 14:26

Loved it-also got vetoed by OH🙈
I know one who goes by Natty but he's only little-I can't imagine he will be called Natty when he's a teenager!

parrotseatemall · 27/07/2017 14:07

Have always loved this name.

TheSeaTheSkyTheSeaTheSkyyyyyy · 27/07/2017 13:50

I love it. Would shorten it to Nate.

elpinguino · 27/07/2017 13:19

Love it, and especially love Nate as a shortening. It's on my shortlist for a boy.

Jooni · 27/07/2017 13:04

Love it! And Nat for short.

user1459464195 · 27/07/2017 12:46

Gorgeous name. Also love Nat or Nate as shortenings and Nathan.

strawberrypenguin · 27/07/2017 12:36

Love it. Nathan or Nate are lovely shortenings too

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 27/07/2017 12:35

I do like it, it's a lovely name, but not Nat/e.
I prefer Daniel.

OneGreyElephantBalancing · 27/07/2017 12:28

Lovely as full name. I prefer Nat as shortening.

Shortening Nate is just odd IMO. I'm surprised how many people like it!

DramaInPyjamas · 27/07/2017 12:27

There's a lot of DH's vetoing it!! Grin

WhyOhWine · 27/07/2017 12:26

I know one, known as Nate. I think the length of the name means it will end up being shortened in some way when he gets to school at least.

Liadain · 27/07/2017 12:23

I do like it, but I think it will definitely be shortened at some point. You can control that to an extent when he's young, but then I could definitely see his mates doing it as a teen. If you think it'll bother you, I wouldn't.

I like Nathan and Nate, however, so I'd be happy with the name! There is one up the road from my aunt, about 10 years old, gets shortened to Nate iirc.

IJustGotHitByADeer · 27/07/2017 12:23

I like it but DH doesn't. I knew a Nathaniel once who went by Nat instead of Nate.
