Opinions on the name Stella?

Do you like it, do you think it's dated and do you know any? Thanks. I love the meaning Star which is why I like it!

I only know one Stella who is middle aged, but I never think of the beer when I see her

I love Estella but not a fan of Estelle.

I think it's an okay name. It does remind me of alcohol when I say it tho. I only know one, who's about 10.

I reckon less than 5% of people under 25 yrs old have seen Streetcar called Desire so I wouldn't worry about that- feel more sorry for the kids getting called khaleesi

Anyway, I think it's classic and feminine without being cutesy, plus lots of good 'real life' Stella's. I'm a fan.

I love it! It's my middle name. Smile Funnily enough, I grew up on a council estate but I was given the name as a tribute to my lovely Polish grandmother (Stanislawa) as opposed to my parent's obvious love of lager. Hmm

Ilseburnley we clearly both have good taste - I also thought of the Sidney when I named DD. I was aware of the lager connection, but also of Stella McCartney, Stella Rimington (ex head of MI5) and a very cool, edgy and quite posh girl I went to school with. Only one person has ever done the Streetcar "Stellaaa" ala Marlon Brando: my Dad, on the labour ward Hmm I love how international the name is too - Italians, Greeks and French people have claimed her as their own, but I've also been told it's a "proper old fashioned English name". Go for it OP.

Beautiful. I have a Stella. It's classical - apart from being Latin for star, it features in Philip Sidney's Astrophil and Stella sonnet sequence from 1591 and was the name of Jonathan Swift's beloved in the early 1700s. Or the lovely jazz standard Stella By Starlight. Those who think of cheap beer or chavviness haven't a clue Angry

Most names will have some relation to something we don't like. I wouldn't let that spoil a name choice.

The supermodel Stella Maxwell doesn't mind it, she's very pretty.

I like Estella or Estelle a bit more though

It's OK, depending on what your surname is. I know a Stella (40s) whose surname is Peace. Which I think is a bit much.

I prefer Tara, which I believe also means 'star'

She will be plagued by people shouting "Stellaaaaa" a la streetcar, each of them thinking they are the first person to make that particular joke.

otherwise it is a nice name - translates well across different cultures/countries too.

I think it's lovely. It wouldn't make me think of lager...unless you gave your daughter the middle name Artois.

I really like it. I've known three, of three different ages (80s, 60s, 30s).

I'd definitely consider it for a baby if it went with our surname, which it doesn't.

I don't think it's associated particularly strongly with a certain class or age.

I like it as a nickname for Estelle/Estella. It doesn't make me think of lager either.

DD is Estelle nn Stella. I was aware of the Stella Artois association but decided it didn't matter.

I think Stella is a beautiful name. It rolls off the tongue and I generally love names with 'ella' in them :)

Love it. My clever, beautiful, funny teenage niece is called Stella, Lala as a childhood nickname. The larger comments dried up after about 2 weeks.

I love it. Very cool and classy IMHO. Stella Artois connection has never come to mind with the Stella's I've met.
