@FuckingFlumps

my name is talissa tulip, people call me tulip smile and im proud of it, people aren't as mean as you think aha instead of making fun of my name, they compliment me smile) anyway, hope u have a great day ma'am

So you decided to search your name and then revive a thread that is 3 YEARS OLD to say people don't make rude comments to your face? If you like your name that's great but it seems odd to come and comment on such an old thread when your name isn't even technically tulip. Confused

first off, is it wrong to revive a thread that is 3 YEARS OLD ? and yes they might not say it to my face , im sure there’s people who do talk behind my back but like why should we expect the worst of people right? and isn’t everyone odd ?😁 nah nah, theres two of us in the family that has the name talissa in the front, so obviously they’re gonna call me tulip, that’s technically my name isnt it ? have an amazing day love

I love it, A plus. Use it for sure.

LemonRoses · 06/08/2021 07:22

I rather like it. Definitely not the Topaz suggested or Jasmine (both rather common). Tulip is more akin to Honey or Posy. Quite quirky but not so left of field to cause embarrassment. She’ll grow into it.

Our eldest has a not dissimilar name that was considered quirky at the time but ten years later was far more common. She loves her name.

I have heard that joke too, so a no from me

Disfordarkchocolate · 06/08/2021 05:50

I think it's lovely. I'm sure there is one who a reporter or something similar. I've definitely heard of it before.

You can bet she'd always be picked last for sports

Sorry!

And sorry but i'm in the 'not keen' camp too. Pretty name for an animal, but not a person.

Coey2016 · 05/08/2017 21:08

I like it a lot

Mandraki · 05/08/2017 10:47

It's pretty but imagine her being a solicitor/CEO/head teacher and called Tulip. Cute for a little girl, not so great for a grown woman.

WhittlingIhopMonkey · 31/07/2017 21:33

Reading through the thread a few people have mentioned Tulip as an insult. We are all Irish so it must be an Irish colloquialism

As long as your DD doesn't move to Ireland should be ok.

Still not a fan of Tulip though.

Namehunting001 · 31/07/2017 20:39

@daisy that is such a lovely post :)
@whittling never heard of that!

Is Tulip not a synonym for stupid?

'Thats blokes an absolute Tulip'

A bit like calling your kid Bellend?

LorLorr2 · 31/07/2017 18:57

Not a fan because a friend's rabbit had that name, and even on a pet I was thinking 'really??' Grin
Then again, people tend to grow into unusual names and you wouldn't want to have regret in the future if you wished you had stuck with it x

MammieBear · 29/07/2017 14:51

If you like it go for it, it works as a name it's just unusual that's all. If unusual flower names are your thing have you thought of:
Briony
Dahlia
Zelie
Zinnea

BertrandRussell · 29/07/2017 13:54

Never choose a name that will mean throughout her life people will say "Sorry, I didn't quite catch that......" every time she gives her name..........

daisypond · 29/07/2017 13:52

I find most flower names far too girlie and cute for my taste. Tulip - possibly because it doesn't end in that I-E or Y sound, which I really dislike - is a much stronger name. As the only Tulips I'm personally aware of are the aforesaid BBC journalist and the MP, it seems a strong name for a grown-up woman to me. Tulips are tall (not one of those diminutive ground-hugging plants), usually bright-coloured flowers which look good in all stages of their growth - from buds to full flowers and even when fading and drooping - a good metaphor, I'd say, to wish upon a child.

Carouselfish · 29/07/2017 11:41

Guess you have to be a US Shameless fan Molly.

MoonfaceAndSilky · 28/07/2017 21:38

I think its very sweet Flowers

Oysterbabe · 28/07/2017 21:31

I had a pet rat called Tulip.

ScarletSienna · 28/07/2017 13:33

I like it. I wouldn't choose I myself but it's ok. I say 'Tyoolip' and didn't realise others said 'choolip' though and I don't like that pn as it sounds like 'chew lip'.

Rhubarbtart9 · 28/07/2017 13:27

Topaz

Rhubarbtart9 · 28/07/2017 13:24

What about Opal

Floggingmolly · 28/07/2017 13:16

What's "very cool" about being called Lip?!

Dumdedumdum · 28/07/2017 12:33

Great middlename, sorry.
It's just quite harsh to say, unlike other flowery names.
But then wouldn't want to name a dd after a flower anyway so ignore me.
