Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I love unusual names, but I don't think it's a very good idea to call a person Pegasus.

n0ne · 18/07/2017 22:00

I love classical names but Pegasus is ridiculous. Philomena I like.

GetOutOfMyBath · 18/07/2017 21:53

mmmm... plenty of food for thought!

OP posts:
missadasmith · 18/07/2017 21:42

no - Pegasus is hideous. Philomena isn't much better.

do you have any other names you like?

Madeyemoodysmum · 18/07/2017 21:38

No! Horrendous

Percy however I like and can be unisex
Mena? Rather than Philomena

JustHereForThePooStories · 18/07/2017 21:04

Philly and Filly

BendydickCuminsnatch · 18/07/2017 21:00

Peg & Phil, but sexes reversed Grin

Forgive me op, but no! Especially not Pegasus.

squoosh · 18/07/2017 20:34

I prefer Dobbin and Deirdre.

AmyGardner · 18/07/2017 20:34

Unless your own name is Centaur or Appletree or Set Square or something else ridiculous, you'd be very unfair to saddle tiny humans with those names.

krakentoast · 18/07/2017 20:31

OP, I think you need to do the "imagine them as an adult doing everyday things" test. Can you imagine a young man called Pegasus making a report to the police? Giving his name over the phone to an energy company? Being introduced to his girlfriend's parents? Having his name called out in the GP waiting room? Making a formal complaint at work? Now can you imagine him doing all of those things with the people around him maintaining a straight face throughout?

I'm not saying it's impossible. It may even be character-building. And certainly memorable. But worth considering maybe.

DancingLedge · 18/07/2017 20:31

Go for it Op.
They'll be hard as nails by the time they've been through school.

villainousbroodmare · 18/07/2017 20:25

Aah Jaysus.

TheSeaTheSkyTheSeaTheSkyyyyyy · 18/07/2017 18:12

I've been on these forums for quite some time and Pegasus is one of the most ridiculous suggestions I've seen yet.

TiggyD · 18/07/2017 17:52

Twins? Human twins? Not even part goat?

Pegasus is on a par with Carpet, shoe-Horn, LED Lightbulb, and Roundabout. It's not a name, it's the name of a thing. If you like it so much why don't you call yourself Pegasus?

iklboo · 18/07/2017 17:42

Pegasus? Erm, no. You could go for Minotaur & then start a thread about its pronunciation (My-nataur or Min-nataur)

Bubbaboo2 · 18/07/2017 17:35

Sorry I usually try and say something positive on these threads but I think they are both awful and seem far too try hard. I get unusual names can be appealing but do you really want names that will be remembered by their teachers forever...for all the wrong reasons!

Chocolatecake12 · 18/07/2017 15:55

Please remember you are not naming babies but people. These little people will grow up, go through school, maybe college and go on to get jobs and be adults in their own right.
Give them names that they can be proud of, not names that they will to explain forever.

LaurieFairyCake · 18/07/2017 15:55

You know your choices are 'out there' when you can't imagine Jacob Reece Mogg using them Grin

motherinferior · 18/07/2017 15:51

How about Ptolemy and Terpsichore?

LaurieFairyCake · 18/07/2017 15:40

Put down the crack pipe and move away from your cherished copy of the Iliad

But thanks for a brilliant laugh Grin

"Another vote for "makes a nice change from Jack and Lily"

0h, ffs.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 18/07/2017 15:19

You've got to be taking the piss.

sashh · 18/07/2017 15:18

I went to school with a Philomena, she said in reception she thought she was a bit think because it took her a long time to learnt o write her name compared to Amy and Jane.

MikeUniformMike · 18/07/2017 15:18

You could make it nicer by double-barrelling it with something more popular ...
