Family member has new baby called Rex. I'd never considered the name before and wondered what most thought. I liked Rex Harrison way back but my little grandson said'Oh like Tyrannosaurus Rex?"

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BeepBeepMOVE · 13/07/2017 02:49

I like it! Used to know a hot posh guy called rex, no idea if it was his full name or not though.

Does it mean king?

Skyatnight4 · 13/07/2017 02:36

Automatically think dogs name

Muddlingalongalone · 13/07/2017 01:52

Sorry OP dogs name for me too.
I did PMSL when a colleague came off the phone and told me his friends had just told him about the birth and they'd called the child Rex Harrison xxx. He looked at me like I was crazy. I made him Google!!

Holowiwi · 13/07/2017 01:34

Immediately thought dogs name

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 13/07/2017 01:34

We had this thread recently.

Rex is a dog's name and very cruel to call a child it.

Jooni · 13/07/2017 01:32

I absolutely love it.

Ojoj1974 · 12/07/2017 23:22

Dogs name but my DS also has a dogs name Grin

Ipushedmygrannyaffabus · 12/07/2017 23:21

I loved it when I was pregnant but everyone told me it was a dogs name.

I still love it.

Sophronia · 12/07/2017 23:16

Although it does sound like the word "wrecks"

Sophronia · 12/07/2017 23:15

I used to think it was a dog's name but now I actually think it's quite cool.

Twozealotmorethan1 · 12/07/2017 22:31

What BackforGood said.

That said, it would probably be an unusual name not shared by many of their friends which could be a good thing. But you might prefer something more widely used.

HolyShmoly · 12/07/2017 22:28

Rebel and me might be from similar parts of the world. Jess and Rex are really common dogs' names. Obviously there are loads of Jess's in the world but I wouldn't call my child either of those names for that reason.

I also had a dog called Roy, but that's not the only reason I wouldn't call my child that!

noenemee · 12/07/2017 22:26

Rex Harrison was indeed really a Reginald.

sugarhoneyicetea · 12/07/2017 22:21

I love it. Very cool name.

bambambini · 12/07/2017 19:47

Makes me think of a dog - or Rex Harrison - but I'm not young and hip.

Other than my first thought - i think it's ok snd folk will be absolutely fine with it. It's growing on me already!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 12/07/2017 19:44

❤️ Rex.

Cuckingfunt1981 · 12/07/2017 19:36

My son is Sam but has a dog called Rex. Call ya kid what u like I say ? Big deal if it's used as a dogs name . If u like it then use it

SealSong · 12/07/2017 19:26

Most popular dogs names lists.
here here and here

Rex only appears at all on the last list linked, and is below Ben, Max and Sam in popularity. Should little boys not be called Ben or Sam because those are 'dog's names'?

chowmeinchick · 12/07/2017 19:18

I would put Rex (dog name) in the same category as Felix (for me is a cat name) but that seems to be getting quite popular now so do what you like OP.

BackforGood · 12/07/2017 19:15

Sorry to upset you Sealsong, but if I were in the park and heard someone calling "Rex", I would fully expect a big dog to come bounding up any minute, too.

SealSong · 12/07/2017 19:15

Maybe just not in my part of the world then!

chowmeinchick · 12/07/2017 19:13

Woof!
😁

RebelRogue · 12/07/2017 19:13

Well grandad went through about 7 dogs, five out of those were rex. The neighbouring farms also had a couple of them. As did one of my ex's brother. And two of my classmates. It's a really common dog name.

Huffletuff · 12/07/2017 19:10

Woof!

SealSong · 12/07/2017 19:05

Most dogs? Really? Hmm
