Hi, my husband and I are expecting our first baby girl and are stuck for a name. We seem fixated on one but celebs knabbed it which means it's not out but a dampner iyswim. We are both alternative so would love a dark name that's beautiful. Surname is spelt differently but same as Kirstie from location.

So far we have

Luna Fae (fairy in French)
Luna Celeste
Serephina

Undecided on Tabitha (is it cats name?), Willow (what if they are not svelte? Like naming a weedy boy Thor iyswim).

Love but can't have Lily or Violet (already in use), Persephone (too close to mine by sound) and Wednesday is bit try too hard but could be a middle name if she's born on a Wednesday ;-)

All ears if anyone has any ideas. Don't mind more out there names/ spiritual/ natural or unisex names.

SunshineHQ · 12/07/2017 09:46

What about Amber?

Easy to spell, but also something different about it.

There are some really beautiful names on this thread, and you have an easy surname, OP to add them too. Sometimes names give a bit of an indication of the person but with these names you could be anything from a wild orchid discoverer to a physicist - very inspiring.

SarahJonesS · 12/07/2017 09:38

Magenta
Amaryllis
Estella
Lydia (Beetle juice)

Heratnumber7 · 12/07/2017 09:24

Fae is not French for fairy.

Fairy in French is fée

DandySeaLioness · 12/07/2017 09:19

Salome

Coleen is Irish for girl

SoyUnPerdedor2 · 12/07/2017 09:09

Coleen / collette (apparently means little goth)
Gethin means dark one in Welsh. It's a boys name, not sure if there is a girl equivalent?
Ruby
Raven
Stella (stars only visible in the dark!)
I like Morwenna.
Ramona always seems like a "dark" name to me. No idea why.

RomulanBattleBagel · 12/07/2017 09:05

Lilith is a fab name. Astrid is one of the middle names we've chosen for DD due later this year. Looking through this thread for inspiration on the other! I like Minerva but it'll forever be McGonagall now (we do love HP)

Bit too out there for me but Hecate - goddess of magic?

SuperBeagle · 12/07/2017 08:59

I love Seraphina, but this is the spelling, not Serephina.

valeriarrgh · 12/07/2017 08:57

I really wanted Wednesday for my daughter (I know it's cliche but I just love it.) However the husband vetoed it (we both had vetoes for names we absolutely did not want) so that was that. My shortlist went as follows.

Nora
Orla
Lily (as in Munster)
Scarlett
Rowan
Iris
Lenore
Octavia (also firmly vetoed. Humph)

Luna does seem to be making a bit of a comeback. I am loving Morwenna that someone suggested above. Tabitha is adorable!

I love this thread!

tinhead · 12/07/2017 08:47

Loveday
Demelza
Lyra

niceupthedance · 12/07/2017 08:44

Tabitha is lovely.

Freya?

Chickenkatsu · 12/07/2017 08:38

Lilith and Isolde are my favourites so far, I also like Eostre, the Godess of Easter.

StarHeartDiamond · 12/07/2017 08:31

Aurora

Lillygreen · 12/07/2017 08:24

Hoping I don't offend anyone...

Everyone wants their child to have an unusual name these days thinking their child will stand out.

As a teacher, I see all these children with unusual names and it makes me forget their name rather than remember it. (As they are all so unusual!)

The Emma's and Thomas's stand out now to me anyway.

How about Ivy? I like Tabatha though.

TroysMammy · 12/07/2017 08:22

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 12/07/2017 08:14
