Which one sounds better and how do you pronounce it ga-bri-elle or gay-bri-elle.

I actually think with a surname starting with a then Gabriella sounds better
i Laos prefer Gabriella as a name

TheUniqueGuide · 04/04/2024 21:49

Gabriella any day

toledanosunshie · 13/07/2017 11:14

It is round here, I know of at least a dozen and there are 3 in my DD's class alone

TurquoiseOwl · 13/07/2017 11:07

@toledanosunshie - Gabriella isn't extremely popular! It's number 136!

Siennamarie · 13/07/2017 11:04

Thanks everyone, we have decided to go with Gabrielle

Absolutely beautiful names but Gabriella is extremely popular so I'd go for Gabrielle. She'll just be called Gabs 99% of the time regardless of whichever name you choose.

Muskey · 13/07/2017 09:42

I have a Gabrielle never considered Gabriella. I did consider Gabriel for a boy but husband vetoed that. It really depends on your surname from what you have said I would go with Gabrielle. You do realise however dd will be known as gabby for most of her school days.

Enidblyton1 · 13/07/2017 09:38

I have a name which ends in -elle and many people assume it's actually the -ella version. This is even after I've introduced myself clearly. This is especially likely to happen to your DD with a surname which beguns with A. When you say Gabrielle 'your surname' I think it will sound like Gabriella.

Not necessarily a big deal, but something to be aware of.

Both lovely names - just pick which one you prefer

27Harper · 13/07/2017 09:36

They're both so pretty! It's hard to decide. Gabriella maybe slightly over Gabrielle but I don't think you can go wrong with either one xx

SuperBeagle · 13/07/2017 09:33

Gabrielle is definitely a feminine name Hmm As someone else mentioned, Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel.

17caterpillars1mouse · 13/07/2017 09:26

Pronounce Gab-ree-elle/Ella

I prefer Gabriella

Wilhelminaaa · 12/07/2017 21:55

Gabrielle.

Crumbelina · 12/07/2017 18:20

I had a similar dilemma a couple of weeks ago over Raphaela versus Raphaelle. Definitely going with Raphaela and I prefer Gabriella. Smile

SwedishEdith · 12/07/2017 17:47

Gabrielle. Of course it's a name! Ask Coco Chanel or Colette, the writer.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 12/07/2017 11:21

AFAIK Gabriele is a boy's name... I worked with an Italain male Gabriele (Gab-ri-el-leh)

BendydickCuminsnatch · 12/07/2017 11:20

Much prefer Gabrielle. It's our second choice name for a girl! Love it.

Creatureofthenight · 12/07/2017 03:00

Gabrielle is the French form and is a female name, not a "non gender type name".
If your surname starts with A then I'd go with Gabrielle.

iogo · 12/07/2017 02:59

Gabrielle was my choice as soon as I saw the thread title. Seeing that your surname begins with 'a', I'd definitely avoid a first name that ends in 'a'.

SuperBeagle · 12/07/2017 02:48

Gabrielle.

For some reason, the extra syllable in Gabriella makes all the difference in me not liking it.

indigox · 12/07/2017 00:47

Gabriella but it may be a bit much with your surname.

notangelinajolie · 12/07/2017 00:46

Italian roots.
Gabriella for a girl.
Gabriel for a boy.
Gabrielle is plain wrong - it's some kind of a half way non gender type name and it is bleuh!!!!!!!!!!

Argeles · 12/07/2017 00:38

Gabrielle.

BadToTheBone · 12/07/2017 00:24

I'd avoid Gabriella if your surname begins with A. My mums first name ended with the same letter that her surname started with and she hated it. Most people say names quickly and with little stress on a space between names, said her name sounded like just one word.

Siennamarie · 12/07/2017 00:19

What about the spelling I have seen it spelt it gabriela and gabriele (spanish) they looks a bit weird to me though and seem like they should have two l's.

Siennamarie · 12/07/2017 00:14

Surname begins with A it's four syllables with three A's.
