Camille - Camel in a English accent, can you persuade people to put on a French accent every time they say your child's name?

Although it is Apanish/Catalan I think Camèlia still works better in the UK too.

Would you consider the Brazilian version: Camila? Pronounced cah-MEE-la. Really like it.

Camilla, it's a lovely name.

Camille would cause pronunciation problems. Cam-eel just sounds wrong, the French way is soft and pretty. It is a unisex name in France, there's a strapping male swimmer with that name.

I like Camille. I know one who pronounces her name Cam - eel. I like though if you wanted it pronounced Cam-eee you and your DD would have a life time of having to correct people.

I have a Camilla Rose and (naturally!) I think her name is beautiful!

She is rarely called Cammy but is called Millie quite a lot.

It is a name which caused a lot of comments when I first named her - people will have strong views (most seem to relate to Camilla of Cornwall). Camille never occurred to use as a name us

Camille by a hairs breadth, but both are fantastic. Camille is slightly more 'chic' and Camilla slightly more 'pretty' I think?

I'm a Camille living in England. My name is pronounced the French way (Cam-ee) but everyone English that I know (including old/best friends) says it more like Cammy and I use Cam-eel for work as it's simpler! People invariably hear 'Kelly' on the phone if I say Cam-ee. So really only my mum and other French people say my name correctly. I love my name but it is hard work sometimes!

Which surprises me, as my gut reaction, as I'd usually go for the traditional English. But Camilla just doesn't sit right whereas I find Camille beautiful.

You'll get the same nicknames anyway. Millie, perhaps?

Both are nice. I would go with Camille (Cameel). Either is highly likely to be shortened to Cam, which I don't like.
