Dearbhla?

Still shifting through baby names if it's a girl! My DH is Irish and he wants an Irish name if it's a girl, and I think Irish names are lovely anyways so that not a problem for me. How do you feel about this name? We are thinking Aisling and I live that name but just wanting to keep out options open. In case you're not certain in the pronunciation Its Dervla. Thank you! xx

Just FYI, it has been my observation that boys and dogs named Cooper tend to end up being called Pooper.

Im actually 87, medical technology has gone a long way 😂. It's my least fave of the 3. I just liked the idea of nicknaming him Coop because it makes him sound like a Cupid lol xx

I really like Sam and Alex. Not so much Cooper - as I am quite a bit older than you (well I must be) I am not really into the surname for first names thing, but I know it's popular.

Thanks hun! So far we have Sam, Cooper and Alex if it's a boy (not very Irish I suppose) I can't do the fadas on my laptop, just my phone so you're not the only one lol xx

Have you got names worked out if it IS a boy?

Can't do fadas, or any kind of accent, don't know how - perhaps I shouldn't try as I'll get confused with that next!. I just about manage with the smileys and bold, and doing links.

Lol it's no problem. Yes that was indeed me I do love the name Róisín also (can't forget the fadas people get mad). I'm going for a scan later today just to check everything's ok so we won't know the gender yet. After all this caffufle I bet it's a boy 😂 xx

Dearbhla/Dervla is OK, but does seem a bit older to my ears. I have to say I prefer Aisling. Or Roisin (which I think you said you liked on another thread - was that you?) They have lovely meanings, too.

I think some accents (Limerick in particular) make Aislinn sound like Aisling/Ashling, coupled with Ashling having been so popular for so long.

Every Aisling I met was pronounced Ash-ling, and I've met 2 Ashleens but that's obviously a different name

math it's not standard that aislinn is pronounced Aisling tho. Any aislinn I've met is called Ash lynn

@Keira none so far. If we decide on Aisling I was thinking Eilidh, put some Scottish into it as well, bit Dearbhla I'm not sure. Maybe Amanda? Not sure how well that works though xx

The -linn in Aislinn is pronounced the same way that linn is pronounced in 'liom, leat, leis, lei, linn, libh, leo'.

It does indeed mean vision or dream.

Lovely name no matter how you spell it, imo.

But why is 'aith' pronounced 'a' on the end of Orlaith? Isn't 'th' a consonant in Irish then?
It is a consonant but not sounded at the end of a word (think of the name Hannah).
TH at the start or in the middle of a word is pronounced like an H.
