For a baby girl...
Bluebelle (my favourite...nn belle)
Carlotta (DH's favourite...nn Lotta or Lottie)
Ashling (both like this...nn Asha)

DP is really campaigning for Carlotta. So, taking on board the hate for Bluebell (I'm going to just have to get a cat, aren't I?! Or a cow...) would you go Carlie or Lotta? Aisling would be the 3rd choice tbh.

Have to agree with other posters.

This child will have this name for life. If she is admitted to a particular profession, that will be on her cert: Bluebell (Insert Surname).
I really don't think she will appreciate it as she grows older.

I would suggest Aisling. It's normal and won't cause her embarrassment as she ages.

Bluebell is worse than Bluebelle and for a nickname Blue is massively worse than Belle. At least Belle is a name, Blue isn't! It's a colour!

Rose, Hazel, Daisy etc are all established names. Bluebell(e) is not. That's the difference. She'd be forever getting side eyed and laughed about by people.

Why is Bluebell (ok, I'll drop the second 'e'!) any different from Rose, Hazel, Daisy, Primrose & other flower/nature names? Would the nn Blue be better than Belle? Root - Daisy is more of a cow's name than Bluebell & it's lovely! It's still my favourite. But I could be swayed & am willing to listen to the criticism! I don't want to be cruel!

As for why give your child a nn? Lots of people do! And because I think it's important to consider what family & friends will shorten it to. Names get shortened all the time, so it's not so much a nn I suppose, more a less formal, 'friendlier' version of the name.

Maybe Ashleen then, instead of the traditional Aisling spelling as outsude of Ireland she'd be constantly correcting people.

Keep the opinions coming! It'll definitely be one of these three...hopefully Bluebell!

I like Bluebell, though personally I'd drop that last E unless you're French (maybe just me).
I don't find naming a child after a flower at all strange

I like Carlotta too and it's unusual.

I don't like your third suggestion.

Bluebelle is not a child's name. Please do not be so cruel as to call your kid that.

Belle by itself is much better than Bluebell, and very much better than Bluebelle.
Lotta by itself is pretty too.

(If you know you're going to use a nickname like these why bother with the long version?)

carlotta is ok- makes me think of carlotta the gypsy girl from enid blyton stories but ok

ashling...do you mean aisling? It's ok if it's spelt aisling [ie the correct irish name] but otherwise it's not great
