There's a Bluebelle at DC's preschool and at first I was a bit but it's really grown on me and I think it's lovely. Her nn is Blue and it really suits her. Your point about flower names is spot on.

MrsLouisTomlinson perhaps the OP should have used the word diminutive or shortening rather than nickname ('Bluebelle' becomes Belle), like people referring to their children as Tom, Tim, Will, Izzy, Beth, Dan etc. Also Pam, Sue, Bill, Jim, Bob etc for older generations.

Family nicknames are different altogether (we also have a Moo Moo).

I think Bluebell is ok. We considered what we wanted our dd2s name to be shortened to before we agreed on her name. People will do it, so best to decide yourselves what nn you want.

Lottie is cute and she has the option of Carla / Cara if she wants to have a different nn as she grows up.

I'm not keen on Bluebelle at all but I do like Belle. I just don't think Bluebelle Surname would be taken very seriously in some professions when she is older.

I love the nicknames - Belle, Lotta/ Lottie and Asha are all gorgeous.

Unfortunately I don't like any of your full names!

Personally for those nicknames I would use Annabelle or Isabelle, Charlotte and i would use Asha as first name (this was on my shortlist for Dd1).

But that said whilst not to my taste the names aren't awful, and the nicknames are great!

Makes me laugh when folk say they are going to use 'x' nickname, in my experience nicknamed completely evolve and rarely have any resemblance to the original 'given' name. My kids currently go by a mixture of Moo, Boo, Mary and Bear. If I told you their actual names you'd wonder why the hell they answer to any of those 😂 They've just completely evolved over time to something unrecognisable from what's on their birth certificate.

Only if you are unaware of the Spanish speaking nations. It's the Spanish version of Charlotte, Hence having the same nicknames.

It hasn't been mentioned but Carlotta is a minor character on Paw Patrol. She is also in the Little Mermaid, so most children have heard the name.

Out of your list, I like that one. I love Charlotte, though. I think if you are dark, then it would suit. Be prepared to be asked if you/she is of Spanish/Mexican decent.

I agree with pp on Bluebell, I'd personally pick another name that you can use the nn Belle for. If you want something unusual what about Maybelle?

Im in Ireland and its usually spelt Aishling. Pronounced as It looks.

LovingLola why shouldn't parents give their child a nickname? Do you think every child should be known as Thomas, William, Jessica, Elizabeth etc until they go to school then their peers are allowed gradually bestow the nicknames Tom, Will, Jess, Beth and so on?

Our dd has been known by a diminutive since she was born - like Jacqueline being called Jackie (not that name). It's hardly unusual.

OP - out of your names I prefer Carlotta.

I like Bluebell, without the random extra e. As for the people who claim that some flower names are 'established' and therefore acceptable- my dsis is a Poppy in her early 40's. People genuinely considered it an outrageous name in the 70's/80's. But people get over it and then everyone names their kid that and you are the only grown up with that name. Which I quite like.

grasspigeon the flower is spelled bluebell not Bluebelle which is why it would be weird to stick an e on the end.

OP if you go with Bluebell, I would suggest you establish the shortening as Belle rather than Blue early on. That way she has an unusual name and a more usual name as options when she's older.

Bluebelle is my favourite of your suggestions. I like Blue and Belle and they are a lovely flower.

Not Bluebell, it's really not nice, she will be teased endlessly.

I don't really like aisling. I like bluebell and prefer it with the 'e'. Carlotta I think is a bit full on, it sounds kind of 80s and tacky to me. But it's not my baby! I think it's odd to say that somebody would laugh or 'side eye' if she was called bluebelle. I know quite a few children with unusual names and I've never thought further than 'oh, that's unusual' when I've heard it. I then accept it, because it's their name, and don't give it another moment's thought. Names that other people tell you are strange very quickly sound normal when they're in constant use.

I really don't like carlotta, it sounds like car lot. Aisling is ok. Don't like bluebell either.

Aisling is the nicest - sorry but bluebell really is a cow type of name, along with buttercup
