For a baby girl...
Bluebelle (my favourite...nn belle)
Carlotta (DH's favourite...nn Lotta or Lottie)
Ashling (both like this...nn Asha)

How about Carina Belle. Or Carla Belle?

Carlotta sounds so clunky and she won't use it as she's growing up, she'll go by Carlie or Lottie.

Mumoftheark · 09/07/2017 07:59

I'm going against the grain here but I really like Bluebelle although to be honest wouldn't use it because I'm not sure as an adult I would want to be a bluebelle, in fact I know I wouldn't. However would you consider Belle on the birth cirt and then when she's young enough use bluebelle as a cute day to day nn?

I'm not keen on the other 2 to be honest, I don't think they are horrible just not my taste.
I do really like Lottie - I know 2 Lottie's both are Charlotte's but Lottie on a day to day basis although I do think you could use it alone.

I think my issue with the other 2 is they have very strong associations with being Irish or Latin American names. Not that I have an issue with using names from somewhere else / there's not many actually English names, but if I met a little Aisling or Carlotta I would assume her parents had links to Ireland or South America. Can't imagine an olive or darker skinned girl called Ashling or a ginger pale skinned Carlotta.

Carla belle sorry!

Stardustandicecream · 09/07/2017 07:27

Carla Bella sounds beautiful tho!

Stardustandicecream · 09/07/2017 07:25

I usually hate hippy names or made up names just to be different but could be persuaded by bluebell - it's a proper word and a pretty flower - just use it if you love it. Belle much better than blue for a nn.
Give her a sensible middle name so she's got options in future.

Lotta reminds me of your character in Austin powers and she'd be teased loads with 'a lotta [x]' or have you got a lot of [x]

sidonie1 · 08/07/2017 21:30

I love the name Bluebell. I don't agree with the comments on it being silly to think of a nn, or the dislike of Belle spelling. Might have just got a little more Bohemian in the last few years as I remember disliking it when Gerri named her child, but think it's really pretty now.

Go for what you love - I know a few Bluebells now and I certainly don't think they'll be teased, etc. There are far crazier names out there and flower names are surely pretty timeless.

Soslowmo · 08/07/2017 19:12

Gorgeous!

shambolicgreenfox · 08/07/2017 17:27

No, it wasn't me Bendy... but I've seen it mentioned a few times lately. I think we've ruled it out. Have settled on Carlotta Belle Surname. Lots of potential shortened versions there (not nicknames!!) Thanks so much for all your help. Much appreciated. ☺

Not Bluebelle as it's awful.

TyrionLannistersShadow · 08/07/2017 15:44

Bluebell : cute for a baby but imo it might be a bit twee and embarrassing for her as an teenager or adult.
Carlotta : nice and unusual, or how about Carla?
'Ashling' : if you're going to use it please spell it correctly , it's Aisling ; ).

BendydickCuminsnatch · 08/07/2017 15:37

Love Aisling, posted on a thread about it yesterday, was that by you or just coincidence?

Not a fan of Bluebell personally, just don't really like flouncy girls names.

Really like the Lotta part of Carlotta, but not the Carl part!

yourerubberimglue · 08/07/2017 15:10

Bluebelle looks stupid ... bluebell is nice

Loyly · 08/07/2017 14:36

Carlotta

Queenofthedrivensnow · 08/07/2017 14:31

I'm going for Carlotta. I like all the names but it's not that widely used. She won't be always Carlotta S or whatever your surname is. It's a cool name and string I like it

MamaHanji · 08/07/2017 14:28

Carlotta is lovely

Another vote for not bluebell! Sorry

MikeUniformMike · 08/07/2017 13:43

OP, the names you suggested are all OK IMO, but use the conventional spelling. Bluebell is a bit too flowery and Aising is there with names like Connor for me. (dated)
As your DH prefers Carlotta, I would say choose Carlotta. If you want to shorten it, you could also have Carly or Carrie.

roodienoodiefoodie · 08/07/2017 13:15

Love Carlotta. Seriously considered lotta for our daughter

SaS2014 · 08/07/2017 11:53

Belle is lovely, bluebell is what you a cow.
Carlotta is ok, but I adore Lottie.
Ashling tbh not one I've heard of don't love it.
Of the 3 Carlotta is best. Tho Lottie or Belle as names on their own are better imo.

Huckleshmuckle · 08/07/2017 11:13

Bluebell is just too twee.

BertrandRussell · 08/07/2017 10:57

Why not Annabel if you like Belle for short?

daisypond · 08/07/2017 10:55

Bluebell (without the extra E) is fine. I like it. Carlotta is nice too, though I might think you had some Spanish origins. Aisling is quite a normal name - and the Irish spelling is fine. Again, I might think you had some Irish connections, though.

TartanDMs · 08/07/2017 10:47

Carlotta for sure.

glitterlips1 · 08/07/2017 10:41

To my ears bluebell sounds silly. I would rather just go with Belle or Bella.

ConstanceCraving · 08/07/2017 09:51

Why not just go with Belle?

DJME · 08/07/2017 09:50

if Bluebell is your favourite go for it
