Evamarie or Aisling?

Currently pregnant with baba number 2 and me and DH are are currently sifting through baby names. We have a 1 year old Leo, and we're only 5 weeks pregnant so still early days before we know the sex but if it's a boy we've settled on Sam, just need a girls name now! It's between Evamarie (one name) and Aisling, pronounced Ash-ling (DH is Irish). Really like both names but can't choose so some opinions could really help if possible. Brianne/Brianna isn't out of the mix either. Thank you xx

I'm Irish and love Irish names but just can't convince my English DH! Would love a little Ailis/h or Aisling though. You'll just have to use one of them for me op Wink!

I lived in Ireland for a while and knew several, all pronounced Ash-ling

I love Aisling. All the Aislings I know pronounce it Ash-LING but they're all from ROI. And I kind of love Evamarie too, I have to say. Eilis is gorgeous too.

Thanks hun! I would probably still use it even if he wasn't Irish, after all, neither of use are Portuguese but we still had little Leonardo haha xx

@MammieBear I know such a pretty meaning! I know that ultimately it's my choice and no one else (well except DH), It's just that a few people were more concerned on the spelling of the name and not the actual name and giving their opinions. I think it's an acceptable spelling too xx

I'm not sure where all the negativity on Evamarie is coming from. Looks like a proper name to me and I think it's quite pretty. I strongly dislike hyphens so MUCH prefer Evamarie and Eva-Marie.

Aisling Eilidh is lovely too

You go with what you want don't change just because people your not going to meet on a forum don't agree with you, it's your baby and your choice personally if you don't want to go with evamarie (which is a perfectly acceptable name just not common) then go with Eva Marie no hyphen though really don't get them. Evamarie means life, wished for child lovely meaning. Smile

Ok, there's clearly a good amount of people here that think the spelling of Evamarie doesn't look right, so how about Eva-Marie? xx

Aisling is a beautiful name.

I know a girl called that.

She pronounces herb name as Ash-ling although can be pronounced aze-ling.

I'm in NI and know a few Aislings and they all pronounce it Ash-leen. Beautiful name!! I like Eva too. Aoife is an Irish name that sounds very similar!!!

I always thought Aisling was ash-lin so you may encounter difficulties with pronounciation

Evamarie seems a bit much a looks wrong mashed together Eva Marie would be better but I'm still not a fan.

I really like Marie on its own though

Evamarie is a name completely with you on that, that would also be the one to get my vote its lovely, unique and goes well with Brother Leo. People are so used to ruby- rose that sort of thing that they forget the original compound names like Annamarie, Rosemarie, Evamarie is a good choice. Smile

I think it's Ash-leen in Ulster? Not sure though, it's just that I know an aisling from Ulster who pronounces it that way.

@SerfTerf I don't think that the spelling needs "improving". It's not a big deal don't see why you're so unhappy with it. The spelling was just a suggestion, that's why I posted the question
