Baby name dilemma

Would you have concerns about the name Ophelia because of the potential ' I feel ya' thing if your surname was friend? Or is it over thinking things and should just go with the name you love?

Well, it's not as bad as if your surname were Cox.

But I do think it's risible enough to make me want to swerve it.

Could you use a different surname?

Eeesh I'm not sure about Ophelia Friend, or Ophelia with any surname that is also an object. It's not horrendous though and probably wouldn't even invite the comments we think it might.

I know a little girl called Ophelia (pn Oh-fee-lee-u) nn FiFi and as far as I'm aware she's never had any problems. I wouldn't think many children would think of that.
Would you not name your child Henry because he was a horrible man whore who was really fat and died? There are plenty of names that may remind someone of something but it's a pretty name and totally useable even with the Shakespeare link!

It's a valid name. I doubt anyone is going to say 'after the character who committed suicide?' That kind of shit doesn't bother me. Like the name's meaning. 'Oh it means shit in Latin' Who cares!

The pronunciation issue will depend on where you live. In my (standard English) accent Ophelia has four syllables and definitely begins with an 'O'.

In certain other accents the name may be said as three syllables and the 'O' might be more of a non-descript 'Uh'.

Personally I do not hear 'I feel ya' at all. I've only ever heard it mentioned on MN!

Oh goodness, I love the name but never thought of 'I feel ya'. It does kind of ruin it a bit for me and I love it! Orla instead?

DS had an Ophelia in his class and i've never heard anything bad says about it.
