I don't think it would be so bad, but kids are still growing up with the Harry Potter books and films. It's not exactly a common name, so hard to avoid the connection.

I had a cat called Dudley. Best cat ever. I loved him so much. So no, I wouldn't call my child Dudley. But that's the only reason.

Each to their own at the end of the day, I quite like it as a name for a little boy. I Put it in the same category as Rufus, Monty, Bruno.

Rowling uses rather obvious clues to the character in naming them.

I know a primary aged one, but I'm not keen. It just makes me think of Lenny Henry saying "I'm from Dudley" in a thick midlands accent.

Dudley was not a good character in Harry Potter. You can't name your kid that.
