Does Dashiell sound "American" to you?

Have heard this comment a few times in relation to the name Dashiell (for a boy). It seems to be meant in a negative way. What do you think?

I've never heard it before so would t think it American, it sounds sort of made up or surnamey to me.

That's not necessarily a negative thing, though.

One of my fave names, though I would spell it with one L.
In which case people will assume it's a typo & you meant Daniel. Would have to get used to that.
American not really... only could be because of Hammett & Sam Spade, right?

I think i first heard it as one of kate blanchett's sons name. She's Australian, but would consider it rather cool if someone like her chose it. Love dash .

Just made me think of Dashiell Hammett, so probably very strong American connotations!

I don't think American straight away. I do mildly panic every time I see it though as I never remember how to pronounce it!

I know a couple of Dashiells actually, bizarrely. North London. They get called Dash/Dashy. Think they both really like their name (
