Baby name 'regret' - 6 months old

Hi all,

I have a gorgeous 6 month old called Caspar Felix. During the entire pregnancy he was going to be named Felix Caspar, but as he arrived on Christmas Day we decided to swap the names. Ever since, I've been unsure on his name - I hate the looks and the 'that's...unusual!' comments I get whenever I introduce him, and I wish so much I'd stuck with what I wanted when he was born and called him Felix. Honestly, I think I'm holding a massive grudge against DH for forcing me to decide on his name when I was clearly not in a state to do so (EMCS) and also felt a bit railroaded as I was aware that quite a few members of my family disliked the name Felix. Thinking back to the few days post birth I was in such a daze, I just went along with what other people wanted.

I do like the name Caspar, and think if I already had a Felix I would be happy to use it for another son IYSWIM? I'm just worried I'm becoming a bit obsessive about it. DH won't even entertain changing his name now. I guess I just wanted to ask - which do you all prefer? I'm not sure whether I want to keep making a fuss to make DH consider changing it, asby 6 months I feel that it is now his name and not mine to change.

Huge apologies for the rambling post, I just feel a bit dismissed every time I mention this to anyone IRL but to me it's important and I think about it most days. Help!

I wouldn't introduce him as Casper felix. Drop the felix and just use Casper. I'd rather Casper to felix to be honest x

Caspar is lovely! Cas is such a cool name for a man, too.

I prefer Casper, I wouldn't officially change it but you could call him Felix if you wish, everyone of my dads generations seems to be known by a middle name.

Thank you for your replies! No, I just introduce him as Caspar. We live in Wiltshire, haven't come across any others.

If it's consuming you so much then you need to have a serious chat with DH about it. Would he agree to a trial run where you call the baby Felix for a month before going through changing it officially? You might find that actually you're happy with Caspar. FWIW I prefer Felix Smile

It took me about 2 years to like dd1 name and I named her! I just kept thinking why did I call her that, it was only briefly discussed with dh a few days before she was born but we had 2 other names we were going to choose from and when she was born he said what will we call her and I confidently said XX Confused

I absolutely love it now because the name = dd1 who I adore.

BTW I really like Caspar as a name.

They are both gorgeous names in my view, and I do like the Christmassy feel of Caspar. But he's young enough to change your mind if you prefer Felix.

In your position I'd keep the name and cross fingers for a second son on whom you can bestow Felix!

Sorry but I think it sounds terrible.

Felix is nice enough but Casper?

TrickyKid · 01/07/2017 23:03

It's a lovely name. Where do you live? Caspar isn't usually thought of as an unusual name.

C0untDucku1a · 01/07/2017 23:03

I prefer casper. One of the three wise men and a clear christmas name.

Felix is a cat's name to me.

You made the right choice.

I think Caspar is nice, Cas for short is nice too. Do you introduce him as Caspar Felix? Why not just say his name is Caspar? You like the name, so I wouldn't let it bother you too much. x
