I have 1 and my Dsis has 3 middle names, I felt short changed until I read this, I've only just realised she has both our GM's names

I have no middle name as have a double-barrelled first name, and also a confirmation name. My daughter has my mum's name as a middle name as she (mum) died shortly before she was born.

My brother, mind you, loathed and detested his middle name, and never ever used it or admitted to it. I think it's a bit risky to give as middle names names that you would not under any circumstances give as a first name.

I think it's quite sad when parents don't bother with middle names, tbh. They're lovely for marking significant people and may make life easier if a child grows to really not like his/her first name - in some places/instances it can be easier to swap to calling oneself one's middle name instead.

My three dc all have two middle names, each of which has a connection of some kind to family member or friend, and all of which are additionally lovely names. I have one middle name. Dh has none, and a short first name at that. He couldn't care less but I do find it somehow sad.

I don't have a middle name and have never felt short changed. OH and I had agreed that our dc would be single namers, but sadly that went out of the window when much loved FIL told everyone our firstborn was called something different to what we had decided. There was nothing wrong with the name he thought we had chosen so to make him feel less guilty about his mistake we included it as a second name, and gave the other dc that followed a second name too so they didn't feel left out.
I still don't see the point of second (and third names). They're never really used and just make form filling more difficult

I have 2 middle names. I have given my DDs one middle name. For monogrammed stuff they generally do 3 initials only. Plus fitting on forms etc.

My first name and surname are also fairly long 3 syllable names. Guess it depends how long the whole name is and the number of syllable.

I would love a middle name. I don't have one. The only saving grace was that my surname was unusual but since marrying I now have a common first and last name. Rubbish for getting email addresses and usernames etc.
Go for two.

Two. I have 2. Order isn't really important- like a pp said, only the first middle name on most forms. But then your second middle name is like having a secret name. Useful when you need an alter ego... after all, it is your name!

If you like both your dm and dmil I would do it, but if you aren't keen on one of them, either no middle name or an unrelated name.

Could you tell us your DM and MILs first and middle names (you could mix up the order if you don't want it to be too identifiable) and maybe we could suggest some kind of merged name that incorporates a bit of one name from each?

Didn't mean to offend anyone! Maybe my surname is a bit more of a mouthful than the other double barrelled ones out there though.
