That's it really. The name is Sadie. I think it's gorgeous, he thinks it's truly awful. We clearly won't be using it now but would love to hear your thoughts, surely I can't be the only one who loves it!

Oh mouse that sucks! I've let go of hope - he really hates it and I would never try and force him! We have a couple of others too luckily. Do you have any that you agree on?

i love Sadie, i only know nice ones.

Mouse14 · 30/06/2017 09:53

No advice on names I'm afraid as we've 12 weeks to go and in the same position. Can't agree Angry

Hold on to the hope he might change his mind when she's here?? Flowers

GoneDownhill · 30/06/2017 05:16

It's a lovely name it if your DH doesn't like it then I guess you will have to find another name.

LittleKiwi · 30/06/2017 05:00

Zadie Smith (awful woman) used to be called Sadie, but changed it presumably because Sadie was so dull.

Both Zadie and Sadie are awful IMO.

Across the Barricades. A book that I loved as a kid about two teenagers called Kevin and Sadie in Northern Ireland. As a result, I LOVE that name. Oddly not Kevin...

Inneedofadvice20172234 · 30/06/2017 04:48

I love it too but I think it is a marmite name.

Use it as a middle name

How about
Esme
Judy
Alanah
Nia
Jenna

All kind of nice but slightly different like Sadie?

OliviaStabler · 30/06/2017 00:08

Sadie was the name of a cow we had. Nice name but wouldn't use it due to the association.

LovingLola · 29/06/2017 23:57

Brian O'Driscoll (of Irish rugby fame) and his wife Amy Huberman (actress) have a dd called Sadie.

anniebambammie · 29/06/2017 23:52

Thanks the replies, an interesting mixed bag! Which I suppose happens for every name really. Absolutely wouldn't push to use it, we have a few other names we liked, just wanted to get a sense of whether it was universally hated given his strong reaction!
"Sadist" made me laugh- I have never thought of that!! Grin

Sadie is one of my favourites.

DH felt like that about the name Anna, which I loved.

SeveredPixieBits · 29/06/2017 20:15

I really like it. It reminds me of eccentric old ladies - in a good way!

Whatwankeryisthis · 29/06/2017 20:14

Absolutley adore it, I have a late Aunt called Sadie and seriously considered it for DC2 who turned out to be a boy so close but no cigar.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 29/06/2017 20:13

Absolutely love it

daisypond · 29/06/2017 20:10

I like Sadie. I don't see it as an old lady name at all. I associate it with teenagers, just because of the CBBC TV series Sadie J about a teenage girl - it was on a few years ago.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 29/06/2017 20:02

Sorry OP, not keen either. Are there any other names that you both like ?
Could you use Sadie for a middle name ?

PlayingSardines · 29/06/2017 15:22

Im with DH. I'm afraid Sadie is total Fag Ash Lil territory for me. A sort of nicotine-stained Bet Lynch.

GinasGirl · 29/06/2017 14:14

I love it! I have an aunt called Sadie and it really suits her. I wanted it, but my husband said no. Luckily we had sons Grin

Bluntness100 · 29/06/2017 14:11

I think it's not very feminine and I always try to think would I want to be called it and in this instance no i wouldn't.

BastardGoDarkly · 29/06/2017 14:08

Ah its gutting when you love a name and its vetoed isn't it?

Our ds has his name because it was literally the only one we agreed on.

Fwiw I'm not keen on Sadie.

Do you have a short list of names you do agree on?

Epipgab · 29/06/2017 14:07

I don't think of it as drippy, it's a bit hard sounding if anything.

greendale17 · 29/06/2017 14:05

I don't like it either

AmyGardner · 29/06/2017 14:04

I'm with your DH, it's very drippy and wet sounding.

jumpybluespider · 29/06/2017 13:56

I love it! It was in my top 3 baby girl names but it was vetoed by my husband - even for our girl puppy!! 🤣
