Mummamayhem · 28/06/2017 20:14

Thank you Lilmy3...never knew how to pronounce it. I read it per-se-phone very odd name.

Celeste is a bit contraceptive ish and I always think that daphne and Celeste song....hey you your mumma to and your daaaaady. Blurgh.

ShootingQuadrantids · 28/06/2017 20:13

Persephone

Soslowmo · 28/06/2017 20:09

Persephone - Seffie

Or

Celeste - Ettie

Probably prefer the Persephone / Seffie option.

MikeUniformMike · 28/06/2017 20:03

Persephone. I think it won't be mispronounced much. No more than Hermy Own and Penny Lope. Percy Phone is really cute anyway and Sephie/Seph is gorgeous.

welshweasel · 28/06/2017 20:02

I love Persephone, NN Sephy. Also love Seraphina with same NN. Celeste will always make me think of the pill and of incest. Incestuous Celeste.

DrSpin · 28/06/2017 19:59

I assumed Persephone was a boys name! I wouldn't use either. Sorry.

Asmoto · 28/06/2017 19:58

Celeste - only because I have heard Persephone mispronounced so often, and your DD might get fed up of telling people she isn't called 'Percy Phone'.

FizzyGreenWater · 28/06/2017 19:56

I also think that if you love these then there will be others which could work - sorry, you might just not be up for any other suggestions though. If so, Celeste.

FizzyGreenWater · 28/06/2017 19:54

Hmmmmmmmmm

On paper, both of them are really lovely unusual names.

Persephone is a terrible one to make work, though. No good nn really - she'll end up as Percy. And, pronunciation. You WILL have issues and so will she.

Celeste - contraceptive pill, sorry. However, easier to pronounce. Nn - Cel? Esta?

These are two names I like, and can see exactly why you would love them but I would never actually use them for first names.

AndieNZ · 28/06/2017 19:47

Sorry I really don't like either! But if I had to choose it would be Mary Celeste. (sorry!)

TheLovelyOtherDinosaur · 28/06/2017 19:38

Love them both- both would be vetoed by DH. Persephone is my fav also Celestina is lovely too

Jooni · 28/06/2017 19:32

Like both. I think I prefer Persephone but Celeste might be easier for her.

I'd go for something plainer in the middle. Celeste Joy? Celeste Ida? Celeste Phoebe?

PancakesAndMapleSyrup · 28/06/2017 18:34

Oh and glorious willowy made me giggle Bertrand!! Not with my genes! No stick thin models here but not babar celeste either! Grin

Thank you all for your replies!! Yes the prounciation for persephone does concern me and spelling. Thinking people will go percy-phone? And it will be annoying!!. Leaning towards Celeste atm. I love the ancient greek story style names but those two are what I was favouring. DH unfussed and has said choose what I like! Any more middle name ideas to go with Celeste?

Tretchikoff · 28/06/2017 17:52

An acquaintance has a Persephone and an Antigone (both named for ships)
She is driven mad by the Perzy-fone and Auntie-gon pronunciations!
Said if she had her time again she would have chosen differently.

harderandharder2breathe · 28/06/2017 17:12

Neither

If you have to have one, then Celeste

228agreenend · 28/06/2017 16:07

Persephone

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 28/06/2017 15:59

Persephone

BertrandRussell · 28/06/2017 15:43

Just imagine yourself at various stages in your life introducing yourself as either. Imagine yourself not being the glorious willowy creature we all wish our daughters to be, but a bit dumpy and spotty and shy introducing yourself as Persephone. Imagine yourself as a 6ft rugby playing Celeste.

WanderingTrolley1 · 28/06/2017 15:40

Both awful. Don't saddle your child with either.

LemonBreeland · 28/06/2017 15:40

Persephone

BertrandRussell · 28/06/2017 15:39

Sorry- they are both awful.

greendale17 · 28/06/2017 15:38

Neither but if I had to choose- Celeste

Mrsknackered · 28/06/2017 15:35

I really, really detest Celeste.
I didn't mean to rhyme

I like Persephone. The NN's percy and seffy are good too.

Lilmy3 · 28/06/2017 15:34

Nugget, it's per-seff-oh-nee like Stephanie
