Everdeen??? Girls baby name.

Hello All,
I’m a newbie to Mums net.
My husband is absolutely adamant he wants our daughter to be called Everdeen, he loves the name. I’m a little less sure, I can’t find any evidence of it being even a name or being used as a name. What do people think? Is it crazy to pick a name that has been made up?

There's an Everdean in Reception at our school. Have only seen the name on class lists though so not sure if it's a boy or a girl.

I actually quite like the sound of it, if you go with Everdine. You will be giving your child a 100% made up name though, so it depends if you're alright with that.

I also thought of Bathsheba Everdene, and it's not a wholly positive association tbh.

I have a female friend called Dene, how about that as a middle name and something like Evelyn as a first name

How about Evaline? Sounds as similar as you can get without actually being Everdeen, and is actually a girls' name!

I like the spelling of Everdene better. She could shorten it to Deanie if she liked. (Judy Blume fan here Grin )

I don't like any names which borrow heavily from popular culture, whether that be Jordan or Hendrix. It's because they tend to be a reflection of the parents' taste, like they're making a big show of the movies / musicians / models they love, which isn't really fair as the child may not want to emulate or celebrate that particular sleb / movie in any way.

Classic names are different, as they aren't so obviously associated with the movie, so it's easier for the child to make it their own.

It's not so much movie-related names that's the problem but, in my case at least, how I feel about said movie character. I dislike the Hunger Games and Jennifer Lawrence so I personally wouldn't go with anything related to that.

Everdeen either brings to mind the Hunger Games character or the asset management company, Aberdeen. For something with the "ev" sound, I'd say Evangeline or Evelyne perhaps?

If it was spelt Everdine it could probably pass for a name, as it's no worse than the likes of Ementine, Geraldine, etc. But this spelling seems to be direct from the character, so it seems odd you saying it has nothing to do with it.

If you like the name then use it, but maybe adapt it a little?
