I have a 16 week old daughter called Evelyn, we named her after her great great grandma and great grandma (both still with us) however, knowing no babies called this myself I didn't think it was that popular...now on all these sites I keep seeing people saying they know loads and it's really common?? Makes me feel a bit disappointed. We never call her Evie-in fact we call her something different for short so don't really mind if Evie is common. How many baby Evelyn's do you know? I haven't met another one yet in our area. TIA.

This website summarises the most recent (2015) ONS data on first names in the U.K. You can look at the list and see how many Evelyns there were that year. If you add up all the Evies, Eves, Evas and Evelyns you'll get an idea of how popular it is in comparison to other names etc. www.britishbabynames.com/blog/top-1000-names-in-england-and-wales-2015.html

I think Evelyn is beginning to have a bit of a moment, but not to a Jack/Evie/Olivia extent - sort of on an Imogen level, whereby you may get two in a class but not 5.

It is a lovely name, there's none in DD's pre-school and I've never seen one on my FB.

I get the worry, I picked Matilda (ex-p's German grans name) just before it surged in popularity. I also have a Charlotte.

My SIL had the right idea she picked completely "unique" names I can't even say them as neither is in the top 100 so would completely out me.

Thank you all! That makes me feel better about our choice! I pretty much always refer to her as the shorter version but if she chooses to use Evelyn in school I don't really want her to be one of five x

I know an Évelyne, aged 4. Have never seen a kid named Evelyn though!

No Evelyn's but 3 Eve/Evie, aged 25, 6 and 1

None. And I know (and come in contact with), an awful lot of babies! I know a few Evie's and Ava's (various spellings).
