I have a 16 week old daughter called Evelyn, we named her after her great great grandma and great grandma (both still with us) however, knowing no babies called this myself I didn't think it was that popular...now on all these sites I keep seeing people saying they know loads and it's really common?? Makes me feel a bit disappointed. We never call her Evie-in fact we call her something different for short so don't really mind if Evie is common. How many baby Evelyn's do you know? I haven't met another one yet in our area. TIA.

I don't know anyone with that name and haven't heard any child being called that at any baby group I've been too either so I'd say where I live it isn't popular

JennyOnAPlate it's annoying isn't it! Can't believe I didn't even check! I will definitely be more cautious with the second as I really don't want her to be 'Evelyn #' in school but looking at this thread it seems I may be worrying unnecessarily :) if it is the case I guess she can just go by her unusual nickname' instead x

I don't know any Evelyn's. Many Evie's but I don't think that's generally short for anything!

I did the same as you...named dd1 after a relative, thought it was unusual and had never met another one. Turned out it was top ten. Saying that though, dd is the only one with her name in her 2 form entry primary so it can't be that popular in this area!

I don't know any non adult Evelyns (Yorkshire)

I'm aware of a handful of Evies aged 12 and under (so in theory some of them could be Evelyn on birth certificate)

Not a popular name at all here in Aus. I only know two Evelyns, both in their 80s/90s.

I know two Evelyns, both toddlers. I'd say it is popular, but not like Amelia / Oliver / Isabelle. I know more Florences.

I'm in the Home Counties.

Yes currently 28 but wouldn't be surprised if its higher when 2016 stats come out. I can cope with the 20's though as in real terms that isn't that many (as pp stated like 2-3 out of 1000) thanks all for your responses-makes me feel better knowing you haven't all said loads of Evelyns (Evie doesn't count for me lol) xx

I know of two.

In stat terms it's currently in top 30, and on the rise.

We didn't decide to use Ally as a nn - she picked it herself. We called her Evelyn when she was younger (actually, these days I tend to call her Evelina or Lina - poor child has to cope with multiple names)!

One definite Evelyn. Also around 15 Evies who might be shortened from Evelyn, I don't know. There are always hundreds in the toddler playground.

I know 1 Evelyn, who's about 3.5yrs old.

It's not that common. 28th most popular girls name in 2015. According to the darkgreener website, about 0.25% of all babies in 2015 were called Evelyn. That's only 2 to 3 Evelyn's in every 1000 babies born in 2015. It's probably not going to be all that more popular for babies born in 2016 or 2017.

Sorry but loads. I'd guess about 15. Know 3 born last year alone of family.

Every group of girls 0-15 has an Evie, Olivia, Lily, Isabella.

They're the new Becky, Kate, Sarah and jo (80s kids comparison).

The Evie's are usually Evie b or Evie bb etc

Evelyn is Dd2 middle name after my grandma. I only know one Evelyn and she is 11.

I know an Evelyn, aged 62, and her GD Evie aged 4, an Evangeline who is 36, and another Evie who's a teen. One per generation, I work in secondary Ed, (moving to primary soon as I'm in a 3-18 academy!) so I meet a lot of parents and children, it's not that common at all x

My daughter is Evelyn - she's 13. She mostly uses Ally as a nickname.

The name was outside the top 100 when she was born, but has become more popular since.

It's definitely not as popular as Eva/Evie though.
