Alice Marina is lovely, Roses, and so is Marina Alice.

I remember the Marina Ogilvy scandal. Funny that back then we all knew who these minor royals were and how shocking it was. No-one would bat an eyelid now!

It's a perfectly pleasant word, but I wouldn't use it to name my child. If other people would, that's up to them.

A marina is where the boats are moored in a coastal town!

So what, it's not an unpleasant or embarrassing association. The name comes from Romance languages meaning coast or seashore.

I've loved the name Marina for years. I remember a scandal involving a minor royal years and years ago involving a Marina so I do associate it as a fairly aristocratic name, which does go well with Rupert.

Both are Shakespearean names.

I associate Miranda a) with the dreadful "comedian" and b) as part of the Martha-Matilda-Madeleine group of middle class M names.

I'd go with Marina as it is very pretty, not as used as the trio of Ms up there and seems younger somehow.

You also need to factor in that Miranda will undoubtedly end up being Mirrie.

I like Marina very much, but I live near a boat marina so I couldn't use it.

Miranda goes really well with Rupert.

Miranda. TBH it's because i'm a little biased. 'Mireena' is a brand of contraceptive implant/coil, so puts me off Marina, which sounds very similar.

Marina reminds me of the woman who held up our post office with a shot gun and said 'I'm Marina XXXX this is a hold up'. Made the stocking on her head a bit pointless really. This was going back a bit though but I still prefer Miranda.

I like Marina because it gives its name to a beautiful T.S. Eliot poem (also very Shakespearian, it came from Pericles).

Either. I think both are beautiful and different from all the Evies/ Islas/ Isabellas etc!
Marina just about pips it for me but love Miranda too.

I think Marina is prettier but it does make me think of the coil and Brighton marina a little bit if I think about it. I doubt I would if I met her though.

I always liked Marika and Mirren which are vaguely similar and I know a
Mirbelle, Marella and melissa (just in case mumsnet put you off your lovely suggestions)

I think Miranda goes best with Rupert, though I think Marina is slightly lovelier as a name.

But I think Marina is lovely, puts me in mind of the beautiful pop star Marina Diamandis
